    Nebraska...

Instead of nitpicking about Iowa towns, or Iowa places, or who's more snobby or white trash, let's talk about that awful place to the west of here that makes us all thankful to be Iowans rather than Nebraskans...

    Things I hate about Nebraska
    1) Girls who's laugh sounds more like draino going down a sink

    2) Cattle yards lining the Interstate in western Nebraska

    3) Omaha, just a dirtier Des Moines with more thugs.

The best thing to come out of Nebraska in the last 50 years... I-80.

A good thing about Nebraska? The speed limit is 75 on I-80, so you can drive through that wasteland faster.
    North Platte is Nebraska's Ottumwa.

This. I lived in Omaha for four years. For the most part it was a good place to live but there were some annoyances...

One, it takes 40 minutes to get from West Omaha to downtown. The highway system is horrible.

Every single night on the news there is a murder. Very, very sad.

People there think Omaha is the NYC of the Midwest.

    It's a Big 10 town.

    Re: Nebraska...

The last time we drove home from Colorado we filled up at the last gas station in CO (near Julesburg, IIRC) and rolled into the first gas station in Council Bluffs on what I'm pretty sure was fumes.

Goal accomplished. Didn't set foot in Nebraska.

    Grammar police: "whose"

Proudly taught English in a Nebraska public school.
Proudly taught engineering at Iowa State University.

edit: on that note, not all ISU alums (or fans) are necessarily born Iowans, nor should they be......

Nothing good to say about Nebraska. Their arrogance is truly unmatched. Omaha's crime rate has nearly doubled in the last 15 years.

    Re: Nebraska...

According to the crime rates on neighborhoodscout.com, Des Moines' total crime rate per 1,000 residents (66.77) is actually slightly higher than that of Omaha (64.84). Omaha's rate of violent crimes is higher than DM (6.69 to 5.45), but DM's rate of property crimes is higher (61.32 to 58.15).

On their crime index scale (100 being the safest), Des Moines ranks a 7, and Omaha an 8. Their description of Omaha:

How does the crime rate in Omaha compare to similar sized city across America? When NeighborhoodScout compared Omaha with other communities its size, we found that the crime rate was near the average for all other communities of similar size. So, whether Omaha's crime rate is high or low compared to all places in the US, when we control for population size and compare it to places that are similar in size, it is near the middle of the pack in crime rate not much more or less dangerous, and about what we would expect from the statistics.
However, it does also say this about violent crimes in Omaha:

For Omaha, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included forcible rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Omaha is one in 150.

I hate pretty much everything about the State of Nebraska, except for downtown Omaha.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

    Re: Nebraska...

The Henry Doorly Zoo is about the only thing I can compliment out of that state. Oh and I think we can all appreciate the $$ they poor into the casinos that border the state. In Council Bluffs the parking lots are dominated by those ugly new license plates the Nebraskans have.

I have no problem with Nebraska, other than its unhealthy obsession with a football team. Domestic abuse goes up there following a Husker loss.
