I will be more shocked if the NCAA actually drops the hammer on a school like OSU.

Me too, but hopefully it gets to the point they can't help but do so.

I'm starting to think Tressel could have murdered someone to help cover this up and probably got away with it. He should thank his lucky stars he wins the Big Ten and owns Michigan or they would have shown his *** the door.

The NCAA dropped the hammer on USC...they can do it with Ohio State

Iowa fans everywhere are rejoicing. Their era of being Ohio St's ***** may finally be over. That being said, if the NCAA does drop the banhammer on OSU, Iowa beating OSU may not really mean much anymore, outside of kicking someone while they're down, which is something the Hawkeyes do very well in the first place...

No cases in which a major violation has been negotiated back to a minor. These are all majors and there will likely be s how-cause for Tressle. My guess? Urban Meyer will be coaching the Buckeyes when this is all said and done. If you're OSU and you can most certainly get Urban Meyer right now, you save face, fire Tressel, and hire him.

IMO USC's current problems stem less from the NCAA violations and are more from the fact they hired Lane Kiffin as Pete Carroll's replacement. Okay, I won't argue the fact that Carroll saw the writing on the wall and got out of Dodge, but I believe Alabama has recovered from similar sanctions in the past.

Yes, what USC got was hardly a slap on the wrist, but the NCAA far from dropped the hammer on USC, either. If USC ends up more along the lines of SMU than Alabama, then that's their own damn fault, as the NCAA didn't even come close to treating USC the way they treated SMU.

NCAA dropped the hammer on SMU, USC got a slap to the face.

I think this is worse than USC

Do you mean a preemptive strike? Cut Tressel loose before the NCAA forces OSU to fire him?

Re: Major violations at Ohio State?

    From the article:

The NCAA could accept Ohio State's suggestion of sanctions - the five-game suspension and the fine - or could levy much more severe penalties. Since the NCAA says that Tressel knowingly used ineligible players, it would seem probable that the 2010 regular season would be vacated - ending the Buckeyes' run of Big Ten titles at six in a row. The NCAA could also come down hard on Tressel, compelling Ohio State to add to Tressel's suspension or issue sanctions leading to the school firing him.
Would you guys be satisfied with the NCAA if this is the outcome?

That quote makes me think Tressel will keep his job.
