    Baseball question

Are the Texas school's Baseball programs self sufficient? They don't travel that much out of state to play or recruit and I've been told that many school like Rice and UT draw well?

    Re: Baseball question

Here's the link to the 2010 total, and average attendance for the top 50 teams: 2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Leaders

Here's some selected numbers from the list. LSU is #1, followed by the Texass teams and my 2nd Alma Mater NC State for giggles. I'm not sure what Texass charges for admission. NC State charges $7 to $10/ ticket, $160 for season tickets, no charge for students (who account for ~25% of attendance).

Rank, School, # home games, total attendance in season, average attendance/game
    1. LSU………………..37…………. 394,900……. 10,673
    5. Texas……………… 39………….. 256,278……. 6,571
    11. Texas A&M……….36…………. 131,089……… 3,641
    14. Rice………………..26………….. 87,711………. 3,374
    18. TCU………………..29………… 90,687……….. 3,127
    24. Baylor……………….34………… 89,804……… 2,641
    26. Texas Tech……….. 29…………. 71,609…….. 2,469
    50. North Carolina St……34…….37,969……..1,117

Pollard said the average cost to run a baseball team in the Big 12 is 1.5 million per season, not including facilities.

    Re: Baseball question

If you include the endowments and what the baseball backed boosters donate, then yes... But when it comes to just the revenue generated from attendance, etc then probably not, mainly because they pay their coaches and spend so much more. The new TV deal might change that though.

Pretty sure the entire Iowa State baseball budget in 2001 was under $300,000

That's what I was wondering. It's possible that a bigger piece of the pie might be a good enough reason to take a look at bringing it back. I doubt it would pay for it all together but having exposure pays in many other ways. For the same reason we may see some schools start wrestling programs.

whatever it takes. if thats the reason that gets the ball rolling then so be it.

i was curious though how the Big 12 Tourney would run now. before, the top 8 teams (out of 10 that had baseball) made the tourney. (ISU and CU were the ones without programs.) now there are 9 teams in the league with programs. so does that 1 team get left out?

    Re: Baseball question

Here at South Carolina its usually always packed for the weekend games especially since they won the title last year. They are 4th in attendance according the that site. They charge about 12 per ticket I think so I would think they would have to be self-sufficient especially since they just built a state of the art stadium 2 years ago.

There have been brief discussions in higher circles of bringing in a baseball only member ( Like Wichita State or Oral Roberts) I don't know how serious that talk is however
