    Lasik:

Anyone from the area had it done? Where did you go and what was your experience like? Cost?

    Re: Lasik

I had it done in Mason City about 7 years ago. It's the best thing I've ever done. I think they have changed the procedure since I've had it done. It's not a painful sugery, but is kind of weird.

Going in to have it done on Tuesday at Wolfe. $4400. LasikPlus is the other top ranked place in DSM. They are a couple hundred cheaper.

Some of the best money you will ever spend. Had it done around 3 years ago and absolutely love it.

    Re: Lasik

I had it done three years ago at LasikPlus. The cost varies a bit depending on if you have astigmatism etc. Mine cost about 3000. I was pleased enough to reccomend it to my wife who just had her eyes done this Jan. Hers were more expensive because of the astigmatism.

One of the main reasons that I had it done was that I wore my contacts all day everyday, I hated glasses. I wasnt very good at changing my contacts as often as I should have which led to issues with eye infections.

I was very happy with LasikPlus as was my wife. I'm sure Wolfe does a fine job as well. Lasik does offer "lifetime" renewal which means if your perscription changes after a few years and you want to go back they will redo the surgery at no cost so that is a plus.
If you have a Flex spending plan at your job you may want to check into this, I have one and I was able to set aside the $$ tax free. Not a huge deal but the fact that mine is spread over the entire 12 mo @ no interest is nice as well.

No matter where you decide to get it done it is worth it IMO. Not dealing with glasses/contacts and being able to see as soon as you open your eyes every morning is pretty sweet.

More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

If you become a Farm Bureau member you can save 20% which is like $800 at Wolfe Eye Clinic. Membership dues are between $35-$45 for a year depending on what county you are in. Pretty easy savings.

    Re: Lasik

I just had mine done from LasikPlus in Omaha last week. Worth every penny. The $3000 estimate from Lasik Plus mentioned above is what I got out here.

I did receive an email if I refer someone to Lasik Plus they will take an additional 10% off. PM me if you are interested.

I've been planning on getting Lasik here in Omaha. I know several people who have used Lasik Plus and were very happy with it. I know a couple of others that used Dr. Liu at Omaha Eye. (at least that is what I think) and said he was just great. I have more than enough in my HSA. I just need to break down and do it.
Been wearing glasses or contacts since I was 8.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

    Re: Lasik

I had mine done a few weeks ago at Iowa Health through McFarland. Just made an appointment at McFarland in Ames and had everything but the surgery there on Duff. The surgery was in WDM. I had to get a slightly different procedure (called PRK) because my corneas were borderline too thin for Lasik. Cost was around $3300. Weirdest part is smelling your eyeballs burning when they start in with that laser. I see 20/20 now...2 weeks after the surgery. If you need the name of the Dr. in Ames, let me know. He did a great job.
