    Iphone's are self aware!!!

I hadn't seen this posted yet but may be one of the creepiest things I have heard in a while. Thank god I haven't drank the Apple Kool-Aid and got an IPhone because they tracking their users every move and uploading it to Apple every time the phone syncs with their computer.

Digital Life - Your iPhone is secretly tracking you all the time

Intentional or not, that is messed up.

And talk about coincidence, this comes out on the same day that the great prophet James Cameron told us that SKYNET would become self aware and attack the humans(original Terminator).

How do you think the Android can pull location so well off cell and wifi; no GPS? How do you think Android can get great traffic info? Find some software that isn't phoning home and that's news.

GPS is fine, all smart phones have that in addition to a Geotracker feature (which can be turned off). But Apple is taking that information and uploading and storing it for unknown reasons and refusing to comment on why.

It's just a little too "big brother" for me.

Tracking me is a waste of technology. I don't do anything exciting or interesting.

Do all GPS devices store logs of your locations?

Yeah, I don't see an issue with this as long is it's not uploading that file somewhere. It's probably for 3rd party apps to use for past location data. And as long as you have to give the 3rd party apps permission to read the data, nothing to see here.

Question for iPhone users: does the GPS on iPhones stay on all the time?

It is legit that it's tracking your location. I downloaded the phonesync app last night an had a history of where my phone had been over the last two months in about 60 secs.

This is going on in all sorts of media. Just this week, there was a speaker that came to talk at the company I contract for and he mentioned that Microsoft and Sony utilize this same kind of tracking. Not only can they get your IP information, but they also profile you based on your game data. The addition of trophies/achievements allow these companies to see what values a certain gamer has to not only generate new software titles, but also generate marketing campaigns and demographic reports of a more specific audience.

My wife and I subscribe to Hulu, where the ads are based on our region (we've seen the "Choose your adventure" ISU promo numerous times), purchases we have made (Tom's of Maine, Dove, etc) and past viewing titles we have watchec on Hulu which generate trailers for movies/tv shows we would be interested in watching.

I also have a GMail account, and if I stay logged-in, my entire search history using Google is saved online for myself, but also for the staff at Google to view. Even the sponsor bar on CF (among other sites) reflects a particular user's online viewing history - such as I will see advertisements for NewEgg.com after I went to the site the previous day. Which is why it is comical to see someone post about CF showing a "risque" advertisement...

There really is no way to not let companies track you anymore, unless you ditch the internet, disconnect your computer, throw away your cell phone, power down your gaming systems, unplug your cable, and cut up your credit cards - then you will be truly off the grid.

I find this very disturbing. The way I understand this if some whacko steals my phone (or my wife's or daughter's) they would basically have your daily routine mapped out for them. Talk about a stalkers or serial killers dream.

    Re: Iphone's are self aware!!!

Everyone's desktop and laptop at home and work has been sending information to thousands of companies for a decade now. If you're reading this now, your computer is likely sending info to some random companies. Microsoft, Apple, Google, and dozens of others you've never heard of.

This is nothing new. There are cheap programs you can get to tell you exactly what companies your computer is sending info to and you can chose to deny it when it starts sending.

The only difference is the iPhone and other smart phones are on the go.
