Best coaches in the Big 12

College football news ranks the best coaches in the Big 12

    1. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma
    2. Mack Brown, Texas
    3. Gary Pinkel, Missouri
    4. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State
    5. Art Briles, Baylor
    6. Paul Rhoads, Iowa State
    7. Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech
    8. Mike Sherman, Texas A&M
    9. Turner Gill, Kansas
    10. Bill Snyder, Kansas State

I actually think that this is pretty fair. If I was a Kstate fan I would probably get upset, but other than that it seems about right. They do seem to be taking into account the win-loss records, but they also seem to realize that some places are harder to coach at than other. I see that with Mike Sherman being at #8 especially.

I think Rhoads will move up in a few years, but at this point I don't see how you can put him any higher.

There is no way that Gill would be ahead of Snyder. I would probably put Snyder ahead of Briles and Sherman as well. It would be interesting to see how well Briles could do without Robert Griffin III.

I hate K State and Snyder but I think it is a crock to put Snyder that low. Seriously, what has Gill done again?

Bill Snyder below Turner Gill is a complete joke. I really don't understand how that makes any sense. Has Turner Gill done anything anywhere except for that one 8 win season at Buffalo?

Snyder should be ahead of Rhoads at this point too. Snyder has a proven track record and has beat Rhoads head to head.

Also I would probably put Pinkel and Gundy at the 1 and 2 spot. Those two coaches did a phenomenal job at building those programs up from what they were at when they got there.

Gill should be last. For Snyder maybe they are only looking at his 2nd term at K-State.

    5) Snyder
    6) Rhoads

Lowered the KU training table budget, for starters.

Wow! Snyder last? What a joke! And Mack Brown is overrated at #2. He's got the easiest job in the conference, maybe the nation.

I would have less of a problem with this list if they had Snyder #2 and Brown #10.

Re: Best coaches in the Big 12

    I disagree with it.
    1. Stoops - Can't argue that
    2. Brown - Can't argue that
    3. Pinkel - Hell of a job putting that program together
    4. Gundy - Pretty much guaranteed a loss every year to Oklahoma but they competed in the former south division.
    5. Snyder - As much as I hate Grandpa Snyder, guy can coach
    6. Rhoads - below .500 as a coach...2 huge wins, too many big losses
    7. Sherman - vastly underachieves
    8. Briles - Baylor is still awful
    9. Tuberville - Still trying to put a program together after they royally screwed themselves
    10. Gill - That program is so ****ed.

Re: Best coaches in the Big 12

If I had to rank them

    1. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma
    2. Mack Brown, Texas
    3. Gary Pinkel, Missouri
    4. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State
    5. Art Briles, Baylor
    6. Paul Rhoads, Iowa State
    8. Mike Sherman, Texas A&M
    9. Bill Snyder, Kansas State
    7. Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech
    10. Turner Gill, Kansas

Bill Snyder is a tough one to rank because if you count his prior time at KSU than he should be much higher. If we are just looking at since he came back he doesn't deserve any higher than he currently is. Keep in mind that while Prince wasn't a very good coach he did keep KSU around the .500 mark for the most part so the cupboards were not completely empty. Snyder hasn't done much more than maintained.

Considering where Baylor was before, Briles deserves to be ahead of Rhoads. I think Rhoads is a better coach, but he hasn't elevated ISU to the point where we can claim that yet. I think a bowl win this season and we can move Rhoads up.

Mike Sherman should have been able to make a move in the standings long before now.

Tuberville I think will do okay at Tech, but when a team hasn't missed a bowl game in over 15 years it's not that hard to win 7 games, especially when you have four cupcake non conference games.

    Gill has done nothing

I could hear arguments for Grundy being lower. OSU did have some good season at the beginning of last decade so it's not like OSU was Baylor. And with the billions being handed to that program you should see vast improvement.

Re: Best coaches in the Big 12

Snyer's first stint was remarkable until the last 2 years and his first 2 years back haven't been overly impressive. Plus, what's the upside? How much longer can he really coach and does anyone think he can get KSU back to where they were in the late 90's?

...He should still be ahead of Gill, though.

Snyder has 2-0 v. Rhoads, so I have a hard time putting him at dead last.
