    Kitchen Backsplash

Looking at putting up some backsplash in the kitchen on about a 15 sq/ft area. Have looked around at Lowes, Menards, and Home Depot, but their selections are not really what we are looking for.

Does anyone have any experiences in putting backsplashes up and/or know of any other good places in the DSM area that we should look at?

    Re: Kitchen Backsplash

I did a mosaic tile backsplash and got the tile at Tile Shop over on Hickman and 100th. Alot of those other places have alot of other options that they just don't have in stock.

What type of material are you wanting to use (Granite, Ceramic Tile, Stainless Steel, etc.)?

Definitely not stainless steel, but other than that, pretty impartial at this time.

intrepid27's better half just had their backslash done by someone who does decorative faux painting in the Cedar Rapids area. Looks just like tile and they choose colors that highlight their colorful collection of Fiestaware dishes. I have no idea how much it costs, but I guess it would be much easier to change our in the future if you want to change up the decorating scheme.

    Just a thought.

Our store (Phillips' Abbey Carpet & Floor) in Ankeny has a nice selection of tile from a bunch of manufacturers, including glass, stone, metals, etc..

The glass tile I used was $9.99/sq ft... Installed it myself pretty easily.

Note that they are a CF advertiser, so by buying there you are supporting CF!

    Re: Kitchen Backsplash

We just did this for a bar area with small square tiles held together by a mesh. We were also tiling a large floor area and had rented a contractor grade wet saw so we had that available to us. It made the job much easier.

We went with this backsplash while we were having the granite put it.

I'm still not in love with the color of it compared to the granite but it wasn't my choice.
