Texas Can Now Print Its Own Money

University of Texas Endowment buys $1 Billion in gold bullion. I think their plan is to secede from the Big 12 and form their own country.

Re: Texas Can Now Print Its Own Money

It was actually the Permanent University Fund, which supports both Texas and Texas A&M.

The endowment, which oversees funds held by the University of Texas System and Texas A&M University, has 6,643 bars of bullion, or 664,300 ounces, in a Comex-registered vault in New York

The University of Texas Investment Management Co., the second-largest U.S. academic endowment,

Who in the hell has a bigger endowment than Texas?? OSU? I figured UT was leaps and bounds bigger than anyone.

Harvard's Wiki page says that Harvard has the largest academic endowment at 27 billion.

I'm guessing that the 1 billion isn't the entire Texas endowment overall, but I don't really know how they put all of this together.

    Two simple rules of investing:
    1. Buy low
    2. Sell high.
Gold is at an all-time high. So UT buys. No wonder their MBA degree is so widely sought.

    J. Kyle Bass made a fortune short selling the housing market. Every 'short' needs a 'long' (buyer). Maybe UT's the sucker for his short gold bet.

Dean Wormer was wrong. Fat, drunk and stupid was a great way to go through college (all five years of it).

Not to move this to the cave, but if you think that with Obama in charge and things the way they are, that there is any chance gold drops significantly, you are crazy.

Yes it is historically high, but no way it's done yet. It will stay like this at least until Obama care and other debt is reigned in. Some sort of Inflation is going to be at the very least a threat for the forseeable future. Could be the next 25 years if the current admin has its way. May not materialize, but I'd say at this pt. shorting gold and precious metals is much more dangerous than taking delivery.

I don't know if I'd recommend buying right now, but I know I wouldn't be shorting. And at a measly 1B. I think UT is probably just hedging.

    I'm not crazy...I'm...dare I say?... Irresponsible.

I agree with your general premise (and have been buying silver for several years), but there are enough fingerprints on our debt that ALL political parties and all administrations since Garfield can be blamed.
