    ISU offers Kale Abrahamson

According to Hawkeye insider's twitter feed, we have offered Abrahamson of Valley. Class of 2012 6-7 guard/forward.
    Rob Howe (HawkeyeInsider) on Twitter

I wish we would have offered earlier. Has offers from NU, Wake Forest, and UNI. Others looking. Imo he is a 6-7 guard/forward, and if he grows any more I suspect many more offers will come.

Hopefully he's just a backup plan.

If he grows another 2 inches it would be nice to have a 6-9 that has a pretty good stroke from outside. Also, might be a case that we offer so that we have an in when it comes time to get Jok to sign.

    Re: ISU offers Kale Abrahamson

Imo, likely to be one of those Uthoff type back-up plans that ends up with several high-major offers and message board pundits to be remiss.

I'm sure this has already been posted, but here is a review of his play at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League:

Kale Abrahamson (West Des Moines, Iowa/WDM Valley)
    2012, SF, 6-7, 190 pounds | Team: All-Iowa Attack U-17
His combination of size, athleticism and skill level are Kyle Singler-esque and he has a great feel for the game. Although he has a low release on his jumper, he can shoot it from behind the arc and he showed the ability to go get his own shot off the dribble. He sees the floor and makes plays for his teammates, but where he excels is scoring the basketball. He has been operating a little under the national radar, but schools like Nebraska, Iowa and Wake Forest have already started to make a strong run for his services.

Is he like Doug McDermott with a quick release and less post moves?

He is like Doug in that he plays in the CIML, needs to add weight, and has a good skill-set.

I think he is more like McCabe at Iowa but with a better handle and a chance to grow a couple more inches.

Based on what I've seen and heard, KA is more of a perimeter player than Doug McD. KA will likely play both the 3 and 4 while Doug is strictly a 4. KA appears to be a very good shooter but what makes him intriguing is his ability to shoot and score off the dribble and if he can do that at 6-8 or 6-9, his projected height, he should be real productive at the high major level.

I didn't like losing Uthoff to Wisconsin because he also had the ability to shoot off the dribble and score at 6-8.

Not if the offer is unconditional and first come, first served. The staff may have decided they couldn't wait any longer on him due to his rising stock.

    I agree.

    Hypothetically:
Looking at (too)far out line-ups, he is a great fit/need. Imo he would add needed shooting, and the length we may need if we have an undersized PG and PF. Add Jok the following year, and Kale's height may allow him to play some 4 more than a SF that is smaller. Of course, there are a lot of good recruits (like Cook) that we are after too.

    Sledge, 5-9
    Okoro, 6-4
    Abrahamson, 6-7 to 6-9
    Naing, 6-7
Unknown (probably some 6-8 to 6-10 guy that is a good athlete but limited offense)

    Re: ISU offers Kale Abrahamson

I personally don't see any reason why Abrahamson should be a back-up plan at this point. He has the frame and the overall skill set to be a very productive player, just needs some fine tuning to portions of his game. He does seem to have an awkwardly low release to his shot, which is something I think will have to be adjusted if he is going to be shooting with outside range at the college level...

At this point in the recruiting game I think he is a solid offer, as pointed out above he could be a nice addition to our potential line-up in the future. ISU is not currently pulling top recruits, which is why I think someone like him with the good potential upside he has is a nice offer at this point.

Why exactly is that? All you have to do is watch his highlight reel to realize this kid has a pretty high ceiling. I mean, all he does is score points from 25 feet and in. He can easily create his own shot and he's aggressive. If we miss out on him and he goes to iowa or UNI, we're all going to wish that he would have came to ISU. To me, he's a much more well rounded Doug McD and we all pretty much agree that we'd like to have him on our roster. Maybe it would help change your mind if Rivals slapped 4 stars on his profile?

He can really handle it for his size. My only concern is his shooting form and if Fred is OK with that then what am I to say?

Not sure why anyone would complain about this. A tall, mobile 3 who can shoot? If Fred wants him, I want him.
