    From ESPN Blog

Pulled this off of their blog today

"Jeff in Omaha, NE asks: Tell me to stop being excited about the Clones. This happens every year during spring ball. Is 7 or 8 possible with our schedule? What are the chances Jantz pulls a Martinez when when he gets ESPN on an off night v UConn?

DU: It's not impossible. I talked to Paul Rhoads earlier this week (ISU fans, heads up for a few Cyclones stories next week) and it's clear that Jantz is by far the fastest quarterback on the roster. I'm excited to see him in action."

I figured he was around Tiller speed (who is quick)

Jantz is the fastest QB we have? I'm not sure whether to be excited or not.

Same here. If they had said the fastest and most accurate than we have something. But if he has legs but no arm, does it matter? The fact that Tiller still appears to be the starter a head of Jantz tell me he has to work on his throwing.

    Re: From ESPN Blog

Well, every talked about Tiller's speed last year when comparing him to Arnaud so I'd think it's a positive that Jantz is even faster. I noticed in a couple videos last week that both Jeff Woody and Jacques Washington said that Jantz is the fastest QB.

Well with the performances that your receivers outside of Franklin delivered a year ago, having a great, accurate arm might not be the most important thing. It worked for Taylor Martinez.

    Re: From ESPN Blog

I don't think that being faster than Tiller exactly puts him in T. Martinez speed range (that dude can move!). But I think it does speak to his overall athleticism, which is a good thing for some running a zone-read option. Maybe they just thought that would surprise/interest people.

I don't think the fact that people are bringing that up is an indictment of his throwing either. It probably still stems for his knowledge of the playbook but I guess it could be either, I don't have any inside info... just speculation

Probably better than being slower than Tom Brady.

I think it may be too early to assess whether Jantz has the arm or not. I'm not sure he's spent enough time in the offense. Arnaud has stated numerous times in the podcasts that Herman's offense is not easy to learn. If you're not anticipating the throws/ routes during the play, you're not likely to look that polished.

I'm more excited to see what Herman can do with our running back stable than anything else.

Tiller always looked quick, but maybe thats because AA was my last memory of a QB.

Or maybe it means Jantz still doesn't have a firm grasp on the offense and until he does Tiller will be the starting QB.

This is where my brain is. I have a feeling Jantz's starting spot is hinging on the playbook. Once thats down, boom, hes there. Hes got a long time yet to get it.

    Re: From ESPN Blog

We KNOW that Jantz has a decent arm...you can see it on the JC videos. Not to mention its borne out in his statistics there. The question is...grasp of the offense and comfort level...which corresponds to decision making. Herman's offense REQUIRES a Qb who makes good decsisons...and Jantz is gonna have to understand the Offense inside and out before he make consistently good decisions. That's a process likely to take well into fall practice...at least. But my guess is...he WILL get there...and will be our starting in the opener against UNI. Time will tell.
