Sounds nice, but sounds more like an NBA or multi-purpose arena, rather than an intimate college arena. And with the huge crowds Nebraska basketball brings, this will be one tough place to play.

It is being built by the City of Lincoln with taxpayer dollars. Can you imagine Ames building a new arena for the Cyclones with taxpayer dollars?

Surprised they did not go for 20k in first pass, which is the enetry level for NCAA regional venues. Quest was intially undersided and may now be up to 18k.

Or maybe build it at a capacity of 20,000.

Re: new bball arena at nebraska...

This reminds me of an article I read comparing Value City Arena (Ohio State) to Mackey Arena (Purdue) and how despite how big, shiny, or bright Value City Arena looks, it doesn't beat Mackey in terms of intimidation factor, quaintness, noise, and overall excitement. Give me better amenities in the concourses at Hilton but keep the insides of Hilton as they are. Allen Fieldhouse is a total dive but yet one of the best environments in College Basketball. This notion that big, shiny arenas are great for college basketball is completely incorrect, and corporate America's need for luxury boxes, club sections, etc., only ruins the college basketball environment. This new 'arena' at Nebraska will resemble a concert hall more than an arena, just watch.

That would make no sense. While the arena is part of the NCAA equation, so are hotels and amenities. Lincoln's Midwest competition for 1st round games is Omaha, Kansas City, Twin Cities, Chicago, Milwaukee, Tulsa, and OKC. Lincoln could build the best arena in the world and still be a less desirable first round site than it's peer group.
