Two Xavier freshmen to transfer (per ESPN)

Any interest in either of these guys - looks like both were Top 150 out of high school in 2010 and would have three to play...

Xavier Musketeers freshmen Jordan Latham, Jay Canty to transfer - ESPN

Re: Two Xavier freshmen to transfer (per ESPN)

Am I the only one who would rather stop getting transfers and get back to high school players? I love all the transfers we have now and they all seem talented. We needed the quick boost in talent but now shouldn't we get our own players and develop them?

Nope, total of 2 ppg combined.

Re: Two Xavier freshmen to transfer (per ESPN)

Both seem to be decent recruits out of high school, but neither seemed to see the floor much during their freshman campaign, therefore I'm fairly skeptical. I'd personally rather have a Will Clyburn, who wasn't a top recruit out of Juco, with proven talent, than one of these guys. This is even with Clyburn only having one year vs. three years with these guys. Clyburn only has had one year to prove himself also and seemed to do a lot more with it.

Re: Two Xavier freshmen to transfer (per ESPN)

I think the transfer strategy is brilliant.
    1. For a down program to get top high school talent is expecting a lot
    2. Fred can be a conduit to the pros for current players
    3. No difference in getting a ready to play transfer than a ready to play frosh like UNC gets, then loses early
    4. Let another school get their unproductive years, well take the icing.
It's a great plan for Iowa State. I'm excited.

Sign me up for Clyburn as well

Obviously these guys would be more on developmental side (both are true freshmen)... haven't seen either of them play but Xavier was pretty good this year so it's not necessarily an indictment that they didn't get a lot of court time.

I would expect that to settle down as things go along. For one thing, transferring to Iowa State right now means more chances of immediate playing time, and it won't necessarily be the case in the future.

Ideally that's how it would work, but there's always a reason why these guys are transferring in the first place. If they are unproducitve at another school, there is no guarantee they will be successful here, if they have behavioral issues at another school, there's no guarantee they won't have them here too.

I like the strategy though, and we're one for one on transfers so far, but we need to see how it works out in the next few years.

    Much rather have Clyburn.
I love going the transfer route. I would take transfers even if we are getting mostly top-50 high school guys.

If Iowa State takes every transfer mentioned here, it will have 137 players next year.

I would bet the risk is less than it is for a high school recruit. Just as many kids are transferring because they simply want to, and as the 2nd school you now have leverage. Adding transfers is just as likely to add stability to your program as recruiting high school kids.

Transfers are okay and all but at some point you gotta limit the number of guys on scholly sitting out a season per NCAA rules.

You have a lot to learn. Message boards discuss potential recruits that ultimately do not even get offers.

    I think 2 or 3 a year is optimal.
