    Nishioka to DL

Swisher took him out sliding into second today while he attempted to turn the double and it's now being reported that he suffered a fractured fibula...this is a huge loss since he was such a big transfer. Not sure how long these normally take to heal, but should be quite a while.

Fibula is not as bad as tibia as it is a non-weight bearing bone. Athletes can generally start training sooner so they lose less fitness when they come back.

Be that as it may, it is still a fracture and your body still has to mend it.

Looks like he's been placed on the 15-day DL so the diagnosis might not be terrible. I can't imagine this slide did a huge amount of structural damage to the bone but who knows...

All injured players are typically put on the 15 Day DL until its necessary to put them on the 60 Day DL to clear the 40 man spot.

I know that we are desperate for defensive linemen but don't you think that he is a bit small. I bet he is fast but I would that that he would just be pushed around.

Right. For those not familiar with the rules:

Basically he won't go to the 60-day, no injured player will, unless their injury carries past the end of the season.

Once you move them to the 60-day and put someone else on the 40-man roster, when you do eventually bring the injured player back, somebody would now have to be cut from the 40-man roster (released/put on waivers, free agency, etc.)

He can go to the 15-day and essentially stay there forever. The 15 isn't a max limit, only a low end requirement.

60 day really only has use toward the end of the year, or if you have a ton of injuries and need to call-up someone who wasn't already on the 40-man.
