Hooking a laptop up to an LCD HDTV?

    1. Does anyone out there do this?
    2. How would you do this?
    3. Does it improve the visuals of watching something such as the CloneZone on full screen?

I know when the video is small and compact it looks much better than when I put it in full screen mode, but am hoping that running through my tv would help. Just please don't tell me I need a graphics card upgrade. My computer is a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC less than a year old dv2025nr is that helps.

I would appreciate any help on this from those of you that know more than I do.

No running the clone zone through your tv won't make the larger picture look better.
I do connect a computer to a TV often though, generally I do it with a S-video cable. But you can use standard audio video cables as well.

Actually, I believe it should read "Hooking up a laptop to a LCD HDTV?" A not AN.

It's "AN" because the first sound of "LCD" is actually a vowel sound.

Re: Hooking a laptop up to an LCD HDTV?

    1. Yes I do.
I have a HDMI port, kinda rare/new for a laptop, so I hook up my video via that. I checked the specs on your laptop, since this doesn't apply for you, you'll have to settle for S-video or VGA. Since the clone zone picture won't be the greatest anyway, this will hardly matter.

    2. Buy the cables, hook 'em up. Make sure you've got the applicable audio cable too, if necessary.

    3. I agree that a bad original picture stretched will only make it worse. But on the other hand the cables aren't going to be terribly expensive either ($30-40 ish), so it may be worth a try. It mostly depends on the original video. Since you have a good graphics card, that'll help. Personally, I'd check out how the game looks on your laptop first and go big after if you think it would help the picture...

The KSU game will be streamed at a higher rate than other live CZ webcasts (like VB). It may or may not make a whole lot of difference.

I use a VGA for the picture and then 1/8" jack to the white and red audio cables.

Re: Hooking a laptop up to an LCD HDTV?

you can get a vga -> DVI cable and watch it on your TV, but you are going to get a terrible picture unless it is a really good source picture. Bad pic made biggger is an even worse pic.

Re: Hooking a laptop up to an LCD HDTV?

That is what I was afraid of, had no idea if the DVI>DVI would help the image or just do the same thing on a larger scale.

I did forget to mention that I have a DVI input on my TV as well. If it would matter, doesn't sound like it does.

I did find this site that seems to be fairly helpful on the surface, although it still won't matter unless I am sending HD material from my PC to the TV. Oh well thanks for the help.

Re: Hooking a laptop up to an LCD HDTV?

If you have a DVI port on your laptop, connecting it to a DVI port (or an HDMI port with a DVI-HDMI cable) should be significantly better than connecting your laptop to your LCD TV with s-video. However, excluding that, in general terms your larger LCD TV screen won't improve the picture quality over the LCD screen on your laptop, but it will be bigger.
