Partial Twins blackout on Dish Network & Mediacom

This is an issue of Mediacom & Dish Network being cheap.

    From my blog:

Starting in 2011, FS North has become the exclusive TV home of Twins Baseball and with this, cable & satellite providers need to purchase an additional package of roughly 30 or so games.

Last night's Twins game on FS North was the first game of the new package and it turns out that Dish Network, Cable One (which serves the Sioux City area), and Mediacom did not purchase this package of additional games. Dish Network subscribers were blacked out all together and alternate FS programming was shown on Mediacom.

A list of video providers who have purchased this package of additional games can be found here: Did you miss the Twins game on FSN?

Doesn't mediacom only have FS Midwest in Iowa? Or at least in the Des Moines area. Really sucks to be honest, doubt more people in the Des Moines area care more about the Royals/Blues than the Twins/Wild.

No, Mediacom has FS North along and north of US Highway 20 and Comcast SportsNet Chicago for Eastern Iowa.

Of note with regard to the Royals, all 140 televised Royals games are now on Mediacom with the majority being on the Connections Channel and about 26 or so on FS Midwest (channel 40) when there isn't a conflict with the Cardnails.

Still think FS North would get more viewers in DM area than FS Midwest though.

Hard to say. Big reason Mediacom in Central Iowa went with FS Midwest over CSN Chicago several years ago was for coverage of Big 12 sports, which is way down on the totem pole of programming choices for both FS North and CSN Chicago.

I can think of only one Mediacom market that has both CSN Chicago & FS Midwest and that's Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

Re: Partial Twins blackout on Dish Network & Mediacom

Dish Network & FS North have reached an agreement for the 30 some additional Minnesota Twins baseball games that will be televised by FS North. Dish Network subscribers across "Twins Territory" should be able to watch this afternoon Twins game.

FS North has yet to reach an agreement with Mediacom & Cable One for the additional 30 game package which means Mediacom & Cable One subscribers will not be able to see the following televised Twins games this month:

Apr. 7 Thursday at N.Y. Yankees 12:00 PM
Apr. 9 Saturday vs. Oakland 6:00 PM
Apr. 14 Thursday at Tampa Bay 5:30 PM
Apr. 15 Friday at Tampa Bay 6:00 PM
Apr. 22 Friday vs. Cleveland 7:00 PM
Apr. 26 Tuesday vs. Tampa Bay 7:00 PM

Why is all the blame being put on Mediacom and Dish Network? Couldn't the same blame be put on FSN North for wanting to charge for something that the other channels don't charge for?

Or MLB for having a ridiculous blackout policy?

Exactly. Sorry to twins fans but I hope mediacom doesnt cave. The bills have risen again and again too much as it is, partially thanks to things like this such as the big 10 network and Sinclair. Blame the ones demanding money from mediacom, not mediacom.

Re: Partial Twins blackout on Dish Network & Mediacom

I can verify mediacom won't have today's game... i had to call them up a few minutes ago since they never showed up or called for the 10am to 1pm appointment i had today (my internet/phone's been down since monday)... and immediately i was forced to listen to a minute long description of why you can't watch the twins game today before doing anything on their phone system... god bless them

just when you think they can't find another way to **** you off, they take it up a notch

Re: Partial Twins blackout on Dish Network & Mediacom

Don't really care to watch right now as a Twins fan. They can't beat the Yankees in a series to save their lives, the bats are as cold as Antarctica, management totally whiffed with signing Nishioka instead of a solid #1 pitcher, and Liriano, Pavano, and Baker are basically throwing BP when they can even get the ball in the strike zone!

That being said, I still hope they have a great season but I obviously have my doubts.

Nishioka cost: 12 million over 3 years(I'm being generous and including his posting fee). Cost of the number 1 pitcher: 120 million over 5 years(or twice as much in a year as Nishioka makes in his entire contract). As an alternative, trading half the Twins minor league system for Grienke, if KC would even deal in division. Also its a little bit quick to judge a guy after 6 games.

Man, I need to get into baseball mode. I kept reading this headline and confusing myself - could not place "Twins" as a sports reference.

The best guess I had was two fraternal twins passed out on live TV at the same time.

First of all, I said SOLID #1 pitcher, NOT elite #1. So after doing some research on ESPN website, look what info I found on Opening Day starters around the league and their stats for that day:

    L.Hernandez(WAS)- 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 K's.....1.25 mil
    L.Hochevar(KC)- 5.2 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 5 K's.....1.76 mil
    Y.Gallardo(MIL)- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 4 K's......3.5 mil
    E.Volquez(CIN)- 6 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 5 K's.....1.625 mil
    T.Stauffer(SD)- 6 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 2 K's.....1.075 mil
    C.Kershaw(LAD)- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 9 K's......500 k
    K.Correia(PIT)- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 K's......4 mil
    R.Romero(TOR)- 6.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 7 K's.....1 mil
    U.Jimenez(COL)- 6 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 K.......2.8 mil
    I.Kennedy(ARZ)- 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 K's.....423 k
    D.Price(TB)- 7 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 7 K's.....2.08 mil
    T.Cahill(OAK)- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 K's.....440 k

Compare those to Twins starter for opening day:
    C.Pavano- 4 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 3 K's.....8 mil

So, yeah, I think they could've swung a deal to get a SOLID #1 and still paid less than they did for Nishi.
