    Tailgating Q

Ok, my roommate here at UNI and I usually tailgate with other families and friends from our home town who make the trek from eastern iowa, but this year we want to do tailgating of our own...

I was just wondering when do we need to park in a $15 grass lot, like say the student lot or the ones by the vet med? do we need to come from Cedar Falls the night before and park overnight? or can we still get a parking spot around 7-8 hours before gametime? and if so do we pay daily or just once if we come the night before?

Any help/suggestions for what us out-of-towner (but still college student) Clones should do is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Tailgating Q

They will let you into the lots 6 bhours before kick-off. There will be cars lined up along South 16th Street hours before then waiting in line to get into the grass lots. The cost is $15. The grass lots typically do not fill up right away so no need to panic about showing up 5-6 hours before kick-off.

    Re: Tailgating Q

I believe the same 6 hour rule still applies to all home games = the tailgate lots don't officially open until 6 hrs before kickoff. There will be a line to get one of the better grass spots on the corner of University(aka Elwood) & 16th street, but you should be able to get into the lot no matter what right when it opens.
The grass lot (G2 & G3) at this area is the best, IMO, to intermix with all students.

I know this, I have tailgated since '04, but I've never parked a car anywhere around JTS, we usually walked to tailgating central. Does that mean I can't park until 6 hours before the game on thursday?

***thanks for all the info!!! Can't wait to be in Ames and d-runk as ever.

Skip the line, just get there 30-45 min after they open. Find a nice bar or something to have a few pints before you go to the lots. Of course I am not conodning getting all sloshed and then driving to the game. That is what wives are for, they make great designated drivers.

Not necessarily, you just won't be able to park in your tailgating spot pre-6 hours before kickoff. We have on several occasions, tailgated while waiting in line...sometimes if the lines are long enough (usually for big games) they open the grass lots earlier but that doesn't happen too often.

    Re: Tailgating Q

Well depends, if you are just going to meet someone that is already tailgating just find a side street off South 4th or something and walk to the lots and save yourself $15. If you are going to park in a lot, you'll need to be there at least 6 hours before gametime if you want to get into one of the good grass lots south of the stadium.

Funny - i have done this many a time, specifically those 4 am mornings waiting for the lots for the EIU-ISU games - leave the bar at 2 am, get your stuff, go sleep (maybe) for 2 hours in your truck on the side of the road and then start drinking... you'll see people playing football on the side of 16th street and all of that stuff... fun times!

We did this once with some Oklahoma fans who were there about 3 hours before the crack of dawn. Who would have ever guessed mixing 50 year old OU fans and 22/23 year old college Cyclone fans could have had so much fun. It was a top 5 tailgating moment.
