So how does Bates fit into all this? I have not heard anything about him, is he redshirting?

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

I don't know what to think of this glut of qb's. I don't think we would've accepted a commitment from Jordan if we knew Tiller would commit. Unless we inexplicably develop a two-qb system, I hope Bates is athletic enough to move to another position.

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

Looks like we'll have some competition at QB in the next couple of years. Can't really complain about that.

The article in the Daily today made it seem as if Bates will be a true freshman this season

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

Just as long as a our "glut" at quarterback doesn't end up like our "supposed" glut at running back couple years back and then when we turned around all we saw was Stevie Hicks... we lost some backs the last 4 years. Went from a deep postition to rather empty

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

I think GC said he wished to get all 3 QB's a few snaps on thursday if that were possible. That makes me think he isn't redshirting.

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

Bates doesn't really have the size or strength to be a productive player at another position. The only position I can see him making the move to is safety. But someone might have to transfer.

He could play corner or safety. Supposedly he is pretty fast, and an incredible athlete, so I am sure a db position of some kind would be perfect.

Plus after the last few years of injuries, it is never bad too have too many db's.

Or he wants Mechaelsen to get the chance to step onto a college football field. There's no reason to burn Bates' redshirt year.

Re: Jerome Tiller To Stay at QB

I really like Tiller's intangibles from what I've seen so far. His comments about being a role model and his 3.5 GPA are encouraging. It would be nice to be starting redshirt juniors or seniors every year at QB instead of underclassmen.
