The Big 12 is the most "what is best for me" conference in the nation. It would be nice if the conference teams would once in awhile think "what is best for the league" when making decisions.

Ya, that would be nice but its never going to happen with Texas and to a point OU calling the shots.

Yeah.. but that'll happen when you have a merger of elements of 2 conferences, and wide disparities between the teams fanbases\demographics.

As it is, even with texas getting this, we're still probably getting more money from tv than our 3million state population (split with iowa) would otherwise justify. Though iirc, the big difference just comes down to ticket sales. When Texas can sell 100k+ per game, and we max out at 50, the money difference is ridiculous. But it would be equally ridiculous to demand that that revenue be split.

Northwestern and Indiana would disagree with you. If you are basing it on ticket sales and not state population. They can't possible draw more than ISU and they get an equal split.

THIS!!!!! I don't care if Texas gets a billion dollars from their own damn network, I just want to be able to watch ISU every week in HD. The Big Ten network has all of its games not picked up by ABC or ESPN on every week in HD, please god let the Big 12 network do something similar

    Re: The Longhorn Network

While it does suck that Texas Athletic Department will be making a hell of a lot more money than everyone else in the conference and college sports; from an Athletic Department perspective, we need to concentrate on being better than the KSU's, Missouri's, and Oklahoma States of the world. We need to look at the schools that are one or two steps above us and ask our selves how can ISU be better than them. Texas can make all the money they want, more than likely we are not going to beat them too often in football and even in other sports, but we need to find a way to better than the schools just above us and move up that way.

Has the B10 been sharing gate among the 11 members?

    Re: The Longhorn Network

So apparently, Dish network will not be launching the Texas Network at this time. Darn!

I don't really care about this whole deal. Until I am unable to watch an ISU event because it is on the Texas network, this won't really affect me. And from what I've seen, I can't see a situation where an ISU event would be on TV here if it weren't for this network.

Yes, they do. All Big Ten teams pay 35% of home gate receipts to the conference, which then distributes the pot equally among all schools. Maximum of $1 mil per game, minimum of $300,000. Obviously, Penn State, OSU, and Michigan lose money on this deal.

Exactly. All conference football is likely to be covered by 1st\2nd tier. So no worry about football (LHN is 3rd tier). Anything that makes it onto the LHN for basketball probably wouldntve had any coverage so at worst maybe we can now get an internet stream where we wouldntve had anything before.

So TV revenue is shared equally and a third of the total gate is redisrtibuted equally. Do any other conferences share a portion of the conference gate? I know in the TV deal, ISU is out $3 Million is not sharing equally. I wonder what the gate sharing nets the B10 schools in the lower half of attendance?
