    Over the range microwave

I have an over the range Maytag microwave that sits below a cabinet. I don't see any screws or anything in the cabinet where the microwave attaches. Any idea how to remove one of these?

There are usually two bolts at the front of the cabinet and then attached to a mounting bracket on the wall.

    Re: Over the range microwave

My Maytag microwave has screws that attach the microwave to the cabinet. Look again because I'm quite sure there should be screws that go through the cabinet to the microwave.

Good call. This cabinet is pretty high so I couldn't see them. I felt around and they were there.

A guy is coming out tomorrow to install a vent hood so I need to get this down. Maybe I'll just let him do it since it looks like it requires a couple of people.

    Re: Over the range microwave

It's a two person job. One person to hold it up while other unbolts it. Then tilt front down and gently lift up the back to get it off the mounting bracket. Probably weights 50-60 pounds.

Not sure about that... i put mine up by myself last year, i would think you should be able to take one down without any problems.

why are you replacing a microwave with a vent?

Up can certainly be a 1 person job (I've done it too) with the mounting bracket supports but I wouldn't personally take one down without someone holding it.

    Re: Over the range microwave

You can take it down by yourself if you've done it before and know what you're doing. I would recommend using a second person. Also, if you've got a glass-top range consider moving it, wouldn't want to drop the microwave on it. If the microwave has a glass tray, I'd definitely take that out too, and make sure to unplug the cord first, as that's something that is easily forgotten and will definitely hang you up if you forget.

We're moving from an electric to gas stove.

It's quiet and the rents cheap, although it does seem to get hot as hell in here at times.

You could use a saw to cut away the cabinets. Stand clear and allow the microwave to drop onto your range, sounds like you're going to be getting a new one anyway.

Option two would be to pull out a sledgehammer and smash the cabinets, breaking them away from the wall. Then you could pry the pieces of the cabinets away from the microwave at your leisure.

Option three is to use a bulldozer and demolish the wall. It will provide easy access to bring in the new oven.

    Hope this helps!

The guy just came and it took him roughly 30 seconds. Undid 2 bolts and it just popped right out.
