    November 12, 2005

This was the last time we've won a football game that didn't need the last play of the game to determine the outcome.

Let's just hope August 30, 2007, will be the next Cyclone victory that doesn't need the last play of the game to make us celebrate.

    Nov. 12, 2005 - ISU 30 Colorado 16.
    The "tornado" game.

Maybe one of the most exciting games I've been to.

Maybe that game didn't come down to the last play, but I wasn't celebrating a victory until the clock ticked to zero. That one looked like it could be a loss until the huge interception return by Brent "Big Play" Curvey.

That game was as intense from beginning to end as the Nebraska game in 2002. Or the Iowa game in 2005. Great, great atmosphere.

I kind of agree here, still a great point.

One that made me feel a bit sick.

    Re: November 12, 2005

That game made Nov 12 one of my best birthday experiences ever, even though I had to listen to it on the radio (I was kind of stunned a QC Mallards game didn't preempt the broadcast). That's just a great memory I'll probably never forget.

I was watching the A-P Falcons volleyball team win a state title that night and as we were leaving, Curvey returned the int for the TD. I was running through the streets of Cedar Rapids screaming my head off like a little schoolgirl.

That was fun, but had one of the worst missed blocking in the back calls ever. I still cannot believe that was not called. Not that it would have really made a difference in the game.

    Oh no...worst missed clipping call...

    1999

A very good Kansas State team vs. ISU.

    Halftime score - 28-0, ISU

Cyclones get the ball first and are forced to punt, kicking the ball from the south to the north.

KSU player receives the ball, right in front of the student section. Our gunner has perfect line on the return man and at the last second, is blatantly clipped.

KSU returns that play for a score and never looks back, scoring 28 more unanswered points.

    Final: KSU 35 ISU 28

We didn't lose because of that one play, but it sure didn't help our case any.

    Re: November 12, 2005

We were tailgating all afternoon down at Whiskey River. A friend of ours had his kids at his sisters in Boone - so we were watching the weather rather close.

When the sirens started going off we ran out to the back door parking lot. Things didn't look all that bad at all. My father in law, who was coming up to the game later, kept calling to make sure everything was alright. He kept giving radar reports that just didn't jive with what we were seeing.

Of course, we couldn't see on the other side of the buildings to the north where the real action was. I was a little freaked when I got up the next morning at KCCI had a home video from a person in north Ames of the tornado that went through their neighborhood.

The game was just electric because of it. As I recall, the wind was rather nasty the whole time and it really negated their superstar kicker Crosby. The whole game came down to a matter of just holding the ball while they had the wind.

I'm no fan of Barnett, but he had a great line after the game - something to the effect of "I always thought we had a great mascot. But Iowa State has an actual tornado - that's the real deal now"

I don't think it was, they just tripped up in each other.

I could easily see how it would've been called. But I don't think it was an actual clip.

The worst part about that was the official staring right at that block in the back and not even giving throwing his yellow hanky a second thought. Sure, that play alone might not have cost us the game, but it certainly was a game changer - it got the momentum flowing in the other direction. From that point on ISU could do nothing right and K-State nothing wrong. That return gets called back like it should have been and that game - and maybe the season - has a different outcome.

OHHHH - what a nightmare! I was sitting on the East side at the 35 yd line, about 16 rows up and had perfect vision of that play -- what a hugely blown call!!! Our entire section was about to storm the field and slap the officiating crew upside the head. The clip was so blatant - in front of God and everyone!

But, you're right, 22 : that one play didn't necessarily cost us the game. However, up to that point, KSU basically had had horrible field position - and the offense was struggling big time. If the clipping call is made, they are forced to start inside their 10 yard line. My prediction is that that would have been extremely demoralizing to the team - they had absolutely NO MOMENTUM at all. The called back TD - with horrible field position - would have taken the wind out of their sails. Instead, that "big play" gave them all the momentum they needed.

That game ranks behind the Missouri and Kansas losses & the Independence Bowl loss (all missed FGs), on my "most frustrating" losses of all time!

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

I agree, Moser didn't block him. He came flying up which makes it seem like he steamrolled him, but they either got a little tangled or the guy was clumsy. I have the game on DVD and its not obvious.
