    Greenway Out for Season

Just heard on Cotlar that Greenway tore an ACL last night in preseason against Raiders and is out for the season. Tough Luck for the Vikings and Greenway!

Hate to see all these injuries in the preseason...

I also thought Jackson looked great at QB. He will give the vikes a lot of options that Johnson can't.

Yeah...it's somewhat confirmed...but still pending the MRI...

08/15/2006 - GREENWAY DONE FOR '06? Kim David/ KROC AM News/ wire service info The Vikings may have lost top draft pick Chad Greenway for the season after the linebacker out of Iowa injured his left knee in last night's game. Greenway will have an MRI this morning, but there are indications of a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament. An injury like that would end Greenway's season. Greenway was hurt covering a kickoff late in the first quarter, twisting his knee while getting blocked by an Oakland player. The Vikes lost the game, 16 - 13.

It's terrible to see these things happen in games that mean absolutely nothing...

Having 4 preseason games in the NFL is ridiculous. That is 25% of the season! Could you imagine ISU playing 3 meaningless preseason games?! These guys are professional athletes and I'm guessing the starters could probably do without ANY preseason games. IMO the NFL should cut it down to 2 preseason games basically to get the 2nds and 3rds some reps.

The statement that the starters don't need any pre-season reps is completely inaccurate. Especially with the teams with many new starters...either via free agency/trades or the draft. Team cohesiveness is very, very important.

Look at the teams in the 90's that sat most/all of their starters for the vast majority of pre-season. These teams came out of the gates slow - saw a state on ESPN about it the other day. Sorry I don't have a link or anything, but it showed the importance of the 1st team guys playing a fair amount in the pre-season.

I do agree the number of pre-season games is too many. Reducing to 2-3 would be ideal. Yet injuries are still going to happen...then the next thing will be to go to 1-2, etc.

What next...get rid of training camps too? Guys get injured there as well.

I'm saying that starters could go without preseason games, not that they should. Would they be rusty?...I'm sure they would be. This isn't the "old" NFL...guys train, workout, etc. all year. Do you really think that these guys come in out of shape and training camp is used to get them back into shape? Training camp is super-important to new players and also for teams with new coaches. Take the Steelers for example, same coach and players (for the most part). They all know the system so training camp (while still important) will be less important than let's say the Packers.

I'm not for NO preseason games...but at least get it down to 2.

What is missing in the preseason argument of fewer games is that the injuries that are being used for justification happened in the first game. Unless you eliminate preseason altogether they still happen.

Did anyone else catch the comment made that Abdul Hodge is doing better so far at Green Bay than AJ Hawk? When you think about the caliber of Linebackers that Iowa had last year it will be interesting to see if Iowa can keep their defense stout without these multiyear starters.

Hodge has had a good camp to this point....but Hawk had more solid plays in the last game (except for the blown coverage) and all my friends who attend the practice sessions state Hawk is gaining ground most quick

I disagree about the Steelers. Everyone in the league is now studying their game tapes...play by play. Figuring out how to knock off the Super Bowl champions. So...the Steelers must get better. They must make changes to a few things to keep the other teams off guard.

No team...regardless of how good they are...can go with the status quo.

Say a team does not play their starters much at all in pre-season. They come our rusty the first few weeks...losing a game or two early on that costs them a chance at the playoffs or a higher seed. Think they'd want those games back?

Yeah...I heard it. And the resident flamer on the Iowa board (greghelmersfan) latched onto it...shocking. His own fans don't even care for him.

But anyway...I watched Hodge in pass coverage and he looked confused. It's a big step though from college to the NFL for linebackers in pass coverage. He'll get it figured out soon enough.
