    2004 Caravan Repair Questions

Ok you guys, you helped me with my lawn questions now please help me with my repair questions. My dealer found two things during my last service at 80,000 miles:

    -Solenoid Pack Leaking
    -Power Steering Rack Leaking

What really needs to be repaired soon and what can I put off for awhile. Is there "stop leak" or anything else that can at least temporarily fix these two things. I am sure you already have figured out I am mechanically helpless.

My engine light also is on (yellow not red) which according to the manual might be water in the gas, etc. It goes off and on. If you're a Big Bang fan you will now be comparing me to Penny!!!

    Thanks!!!!

Why not just have the dealer fix the issues??

As long as they are both confirmed issues (you have no reservations about your dealer lying to you) then I think both of them need to be fixed... And why don't you ask them while you are at it to figure out the check engine light?

    Re: 2004 Caravan Repair Questions

Solenoid pack? What kind of vehicle is this? I sold auto parts for 10 years and have never heard of a solenoid pack. Heard of ignition coil packs....those contain a small amount of oil, but if one was leaking you probably wouldn't be going anywhere with it.

You can buy power steering stop leak, it may or may not help. It usually just thickens up the fluid some to keep it from finding the small leaks as easily.

I've also not heard of yellow and red check engine lights. Most are yellow and that's it. If its flashing quickly, that's really bad and you should stop the vehicle ASAP.

    So, basically.....we need more information.

Oh, and queue the vincentaldrich post in 3...2......nevermind, he'll wait 2 years to pull this thread back up.

Seems like they are fairly common, at least in Dodge Caravans:

Hmm....looks like what our books called a shift solenoid or pressure switch. Ah well, that was back in the day.....

Anyway, in looking through some forums real quick, it seems like a fairly simple replacement. But if you've only ever really done oil and air filter changes, if might not be something you should tackle on your own.

    Re: 2004 Caravan Repair Questions

with the power steering you need to find out where it is leaking. it could just be the lines that are leaking which then all you have to do is change the lines. i personally have not done this but i am about to tackle this here soon. mine has been leaking for quite some time but i just keep filling it when it gets low. if your leaking dont park in your driveway because you will leave a nice stain like i have. after i change my lines out i will let you know how it is if it is still relevant.
