    Best Decade For Music?

    60s?
    70s?
    80s?
    90s?
    2000s?

I would say it is a tossup between the 60s and the 80s. Things kind of exploded in the 60s led by the the creativity of the Beatles. But I would give the nod to the 80s. It had the advantage of more musical styles. We had the traditional pop. You had rock and hard rock. And we had the new wave/post punk. Most of the latter were from the U.K. Thoughts?

    70's, 00's, 90's, 60's, 80's

It's kind of a toss up between the 90's and 00's. There were fantastic bands becoming extremely popular in the 90's. More so than this decade. That said, in the 00's, there were just loads of great music that was getting made, but not really reaching much commercial success.

    Re: Best Decade For Music?

It's super close between the 70's and 90's. Personally I give the slight edge to the 90's. There were so many legitimately good bands to come out of both decades that are still relevant, and will be well known 50 years from now. I look at the 00's and see an ungodly amount of crap. There are almost no bands with any staying power. It's a whole bunch of one hit wonders who make up some techno ****, and have the lyrical ability of a 6 year old. The 80's were also just plain awful for the most part, but the late 80's did see some solid bands come along.

I think your age should be included with your decade preference. Personally, I like the 2000s the best, but that's probably because I'm 26.

Agree on all counts minus the 80s. Loved the 80's as well. Many bands from that decade paved the way for more experimental sound. Yes there was alot of crap but same goes for most decades.

    60s, 70s, 50s, then some 80s.

Anything and everything made 1990 and after sucks.

    And I'm 25 years old.

    Re: Best Decade For Music?

I'll go with the 70's. You had Zeppelin, Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, Skynyrd, Eagles, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, KISS, the Beatles split up and doing solo stuff. For non rock fans you had Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Bee Gees cranking out hits.

There's probably more solid bands from the decade that I'm forgetting. So much good music and legendary albums

    Re: Best Decade For Music?

Those of you writing off the past decade need to forget about what's getting put onto the radio. In the 90's, great music still made the charts.

There's great music coming out this decade that just doesn't have any commercial success. There are some notable exceptions like Jack White, or the Black Keys, but I'd say the music still getting made is just as strong, it's just that none of the good stuff is making the airwaves.

There was **** music in every one of these decades, but like they say, the cream always rises. Who knows what kids born this decade will think of the 00's? I was born in the 80's and think the 70's were the best decade for music. Part of this is due to bands that weren't really getting much airplay back then, but it was great music and it stood the test of time.
