    Question for ISU fans...

How would you rank these ISU teams in terms of which one would win the most against the others?

    2000
    2001
    2002
    2004
    2005
    2009
    2010

    Curious about your thoughts.

I find it difficult to compare the different eras, maybe the memories make those teams seem better. Also I know it is blasphemous to put any ISU team over a Seneca lead team.

I agree with you until the last three, where I would say 2001>2009>2010.

2000 was the best. Sage and company were one good team.
2005 The team was seriously almost undefeated, but we didn't get the breaks we needed. Missed field goals, Chase Daniels, fumbles going into the endzone. Trademark of a Dan McCarney team--- We couldn't get over the hump.
2001- Seneca led team. Didn't have to carry the team like in 2002 and actually had a line still along with a running game.
2004- Very young team. Showed a lot of potential but peaked in 2005 instead of Jr and Sr seasons.
2009- I put this team ahead of Seneca's sr year because the team played as one. They had a good defense for the most part. Very blue collar with Jesse Smith. Went to a bowl game with absolutely zero expectations.
2002- Yeah they beat Iowa, and Seneca did stay inbounds against FSU, but this team died and died quickly. Being ranked all the way up to #9 or something and falling completely off the radar. OU killed us along with Texas. We couldn't even beat U-Conn who was in their second year of D1 football I think, or maybe first. We had no running game, no defense, no line. It was a complete disaster. Our best running back was Hiawatha Rutland. That should tell you something.
2010- Team was close to beating KSU. Stayed close to Missouri with Tiller starting and a deflated team after the CU beating. Slaughtered by Utah and OU, but still came back and beat Texas Tech and Texas. Really believed this team should of pulled out 2 more wins.

Am I the only one who thought the 2010 squad was actually better than the 09 squad?

Nope, I'm with you. 2010 would have beaten 2009 head to head. Really, they had the same core of players minus Jesse Smith.

    Re: Question for ISU fans...

I think the 2010 squad was better than '09 and '04.

They played a MUCH tougher schedule than either of those squads and were very close to matching their regular season win totals. In '04, yeah, we won 7 games but we beat 2 teams that finished w/winning records and they both came out of the MAC. I know we only beat 2 teams with winning records in 2010 as well, but we beat Texas on the road, beat a MAC team that finished the season ranked, and played very close games against ranked Nebraska and Missouri teams. In 2004, we only had one good game against a better team, and that was Iowa.

    Re: Question for ISU fans...

I thought the 05 team was the best of the bunch. At least from a talent standpoint. Not taking anything away from 2000 but that team took some beatings against quality opponents. The 05 defense was probably as good as it can get at Iowa State. Combine that with adequate offensive line play, some solid receivers, and Bret Meyer playing out of his mind and you get a good team. The only issue with that team was running back play and the kicker. Hicks was injured quite a bit and we didn't have much behind him.

    Greg Coleman......smh

The real match up would be the 03 team vs the 08 team. :)

Ha, no joke. Id like to think the 08 team could somewhat slow down that vaunted 03 offense. ...but you never know.

08 would have beaten 03 by 4 TDs. They would have beaten 06 by 2 TDs.

    Re: Question for ISU fans...

First and last are no brainers in my mind. The 2000 team is superior in almost every objective catagory you can imagine. They also win subjectively in my mind. The 2010 team finished with a losing record, enough said. I also thought #2 and #6 were fairly easy to notch also. The middle three could easily be debated and switched about in my opinion. What do you think?

I agree that 2000 is top of the heap of these teams. 2001, 2005, 2002, 2009, 2010,... All had moments of triumph, all had typical ISU pain. Sage and the guys bringing home the first bowl win, and being there to see it...priceless.
