Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

So we have decided that we are going to take one road trip every year to watch a road football game. This year we are thinking the Mizzou game. Has anyone ever been to a game there? What should we expect for hotels, night life, restaraunts, game day, etc? Any info you can add would be great...

Also, I may look into trying again at arranging a bus trip if I can get enough interest for this game. Will post info if I go this route. Will be some changes to how it's done compared to the Insight trip I attempted that failed.

So I take it either nobody has ever been to a game in Columbia or you are too embarrassed to admit having been in the state of Missouri... Just trying to figure out if I should look somewhere outside of Columbia to stay or if there is enough decent restaurants and sports bars there to choose from.

I have never been to a game in Columbia but I would like some information too. Last year I went to Colorado and Mizzou is on my list for this year...October 15th is the date.

I think that the game is Mizzou's homecoming so you may want to make hotel reservations early. There are a lot of nice bars and restaurants in Columbia but you will have to deal with the fans who can be good or bad like any other university town.

We drove down year before last and had a blast. Fun town, nice campus and the fans were nice to us. There are a lot of hotels to choose from, and being college kids we chose a POS motel with itty bitty rooms.

We tailgaited at the VA Hospital across the street from the stadium with some other ISU fans we met. Overall we had a great time.

Went down year before last too. We drove down and back the same day and it wasn't bad at all. Didn't tailgate just hung at a bar that was pretty cool but I can't remember the name. They have free (maybe a couple bucks) buses that will take you to the stadium and back so you don't have to mess with parking there if you don't want to tailgate. Didn't have any problems with their fans.

Re: Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

There seems to be only one main road to the stadium off the interstate and it gets pretty backed up before the game. I happened to be riding through there last year on gameday and had stopped for lunch right off of stadium drive. Left the restaurant at about 12:30 and traffic was backed up on the interstate with people trying to get to the stadium.

Re: Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

I went to the last game in Columbia as well. There wasn't much for parking or tailgating near the stadium. We parked in a garage on campus a few blocks from the stadium. We basically came into town for the game, watched it, and left. Fans were fine, and we wandered around campus a little bit afterwards and didn't have any issues. Can't really provide you much as far as where to stay or nightlife though.

Was there in '09, too. After the game ISU played Mizzou in volleyball, so we made it a 2-fer. We stayed at an Extended Stay America. Let's just say you get what you pay for.

Re: Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

Was there for that awful 2005 game. Didn't stay in town, or really check much out. We tailgated south of the Stadium, at the bottom of the hill in a gravel lot on the west side of the road that runs along the stadium's west edge.

It was a cheap place to park, there were a few porta pots, and a lot of ISU fans in that particular spot. IT's marked on this map as Reactor Field Parking. Looks like it's been paved since then.

I know a couple guys who went to Mizzou and they've told that they think that lot may have closed down due to some underage drinking tickets, which is sort of ironic given that I was 20 when I was down there.

Mizzou fans were fine for the most part, and it's a nice stadium. I'd like to go back and see a little more of the campus and Columbia some time, but I need to finish the Big 12 Stadium tour off before I start repeating.

Re: Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

Ive been there twice but only for the game. I wandered around north of the stadium which may or may not have been part of the campus...don't really recall, and I don't remember bars or resturants near the stadium.

The parking situation is not great there. If you do not have a pass to a lot you can park for free on the shoulders of the 4 lane, which everyone else does for miles and miles. Nothing like tailgating in a ditch! If parking on the shoulder, you want to get there early to find a spot close to the stadium.

Other than what I assume is the big donor lot to the south/east of the stadium, the atmosphere isn't all that great.

If you know what Frat Bobby Bowden belonged to you can park in their driveway for $20 and they let you use their bathrooms. Never had a problem with my car being there and it is just a short walk to the stadium. The bar district is good and they have a little bit of everything.

We are planning on going to the game. All hotels are sold out, so we have booked 20 miles away in Booneville. Several hotels, casino and restaurants. It is homecoming for the game, so all the restaurants will be full. Fun tailgating at a paved lot East of the stadium. Not any bars close to the game, however. Fun time, but our favorite is still aTm for an away game.

Yup. A&M is great. Everything is pretty close to the stadium, and the people are friendly. Pretty easy to park, close to the bars, etc. Texas is fun too, as even though the parking situation blows, there's a great ISU tailgate, and all the locals are really nice.

Worst is Waco, in my experience. Columbia left me with a luke warm feeling. No beefs with it, but not a blast either.

Re: Need Some Info For Mizzou Game

Went there one year and stayed in some town about 45-60 minutes north of Columbia then drove the rest of the way on game day. Not a bad place to tailgate at, its not ISU but the locals will treat you well. They'd rank right there with KSU and Nebraska for road trips. I have been to all the north schools but Colorado for football and can easily say we rank #1 in the north for tailgating.
