    Interesting take on the Hawkeyes

This from Covers.com a great site that is primarly devoted to lines and matchups and a good visit if you bet on football.

    And I quote:
Take a good look at Iowa’s 2006 against-the-spread record and burn it into your memory. You might want to believe in this team, but you might as well light your bankroll on fire if you’re even thinking about betting on the Hawkeyes after they covered in just two games last year. Everyone expected big things from Drew Tate and Co., but the season turned into an unmitigated disaster that included losses to Indiana and Northwestern.
Forget that they put on a show in a 26-24 loss to Texas as a 9-point underdog in the Alamo Bowl. They lost Tate, they lost three of their best offensive linemen and although they’ll have what looks to be a good defense on paper, if you still think Kirk Ferentz can lead this team to victory, then you deserve to lose your money.

They have Iowa going 5-7. By the way they have us going 5-7 as well.

***** would be flying in IC if the Hawks go 5-7. I see them at 6-6 to 8-4, mainly because their schedule is "easy" and if Ferentz is worth the money he should be able to do something to be better than last year. I just don't know if he's worth the money.

Iowa is going to have the schedule from heaven next year. No Michigan and OSU again, and they'll get ISU, Penn State, and Wisconsin all at home. If they don't make the Rose Bowl, they should stop trying.

If Iowa doesn't win at least 7 regular season games this year with their schedule, Ferentz should be fired. No joke.

Kinda funny - the Quad City Times is predicting them to go 6-6 this year...

(unfortunately this was in the hard copy of the paper yesterday and not on the online version)

I don't think Ferentz will be fired after this season (barring an absolute disaster), but he could be on a VERY HOT SEAT.

Re: Interesting take on the Hawkeyes

Firing KF would be a dumb, dumb move by Iowa - short of them completely falling apart this season. IMO, that huge raise was very bad for him, creating expectations that perhaps were not very realistic yet.

Two disappointing seasons has put a lot of pressure on him to win. I just don't see them winning a ton of games this fall - even with the easier schedule. They did still manage to lose to Indiana, Northwestern and Minnesota last year - all of which are on this year's schedule.

And, they lost those games with a senior QB, a very good tight end and some inexperienced but supposedly talented receivers. They won't have those this fall.

And they lost a lot of talent on the O-line. I can see that offense really struggling this year. Defense will be vastly improved in my opinion, but the offense I could really see struggling.

Which makes me think more and more, I kinda like our chances come 9/15.

Thanks kb, this post shows what many Cyclone fans have said for years-- unlike the media hacks who have Iowa as darlings of the big 11 every year, the guys in Vegas don't buy the hype. Over-rated, this year no different.

What's strange in this state - as I moved back last fall and now realize - is that Iowa somehow gets a pass in the fans' and media's eyes when it comes to having to replace a 3 year starting Qb and 3 olinemen. They seem glad all of a sudden that Tate isn't there. How quickly he went from their next Heisman winner to not even missed. Not to mention arguably their best wideout is "AWOL." Meanwhile ISU in seemingly in a similar situation - BUT all skills are back or upgraded and retooling a line - and we are going to be a few years away... I'm strickly talking offense here. I don't get it. Back to the media and Iowa fans in regards to Douglas. Is it just me or is there this eerie silence like it doesn't matter and "let's not focus on the negative stuff."???

It does matter and it will hurt.

I have one cousin that is as much Iowa as I am ISU and he's convinced that we're going to be awful while Iowa is going to be pretty darn good. We'll see.
