    Kidney Stone

Sunday night/Monday morning I woke up in the worst pain ever and eventually it got to the point that it hurt so bad I had to puke. So I decided to go to the ER and after some tests it was determined that I have a kidney stone and the doctor gave me some pain meds and told me to wait and let it pass.

Well, it has been almost a week and it still hasn't passed. So I was just wondering if anyone else has had one and how long does one usually take to pass? I have also been drinking a ton of water and was wondering if there is anything else that I should do to help? Thanks in advance for the advice/info.

    Re: Kidney Stone

    I don't know, but I'm pretty sure you'll know when it's passing.

Anyway, I think it can take as much as a few weeks, depending on size.

Just hope they're not shaped like the ones this Indian guy had:

    Re: Kidney Stone

I've had 2 kidney stones. Once in 2005, it passed in 2 to 3 days.

Then in 2008, they had to surgically remove it after it had not passed through in 7-10 days.

Drink lots of Cherry Juice, but make sure it is 100% Cherry Juice.

It's been too long already. I've been through this twice. Both times put in the hospital. First time it passed in 3 days. Second time the doc waited four and said its time to go in after it and off to surgery we went. Believe me I was glad to get it out!! I'd be seeing a urologist and soon...

    Re: Kidney Stone

I had one a few years ago. I was admitted into the hospital in the middle of the night because the pain was unbearable - worst I've ever experienced. Apparently the stone had shifted some and the pain subsided enough that they sent me home the next day. When I finally passed it, I named it Lucifer.

Unfortunately, people who experience a kidney stone are prone to experiencing more in later life. Not looking forward to that.

    Re: Kidney Stone

I had kidney stones about 7 or 8 years ago and the doc at the hospital gave me a liquid laxative and told me to drink the whole thing and after that to continually drink fluids. Needless to say I spent the next day in the bathroom and sure enough I passed that stone less then 24 hours later. That experience was the most pain I have ever had to endure. Glad it got over quickly.

    Re: Kidney Stone

Had them twice and you when it passes. After getting the er bill the first around I self medicated the second time. Drank a lot of jack and cokes and flushed it out within a day. But after a week you need to see a specialist, and probably have blasted with a laser. Good luck!!!

    Re: Kidney Stone

I had one when I was a student at ISU. Pain slammed me right in the middle of class and I had to leave. Ended up at the hospital a couple of hours later and stayed overnight. Was released the next a.m. w/o passing it. It did pass later that afternoon and I didn't even feel it, just knew it had passed because I saw it (insert size joke here).

If it hasn't passed yet, it will probably have to be surgically removed. Are you still having pain?

    GO CYCLONES!!!

    Re: Kidney Stone

I tell you what, if you have never had a kidney stone you simply have no idea how painful it it is. I had one back in 2001, it took three days to pass. It was very small but the Doc said "the size doesn't matter, they all hurt like Hell". They say if you drink a lot of ice tea it can increase your chances of developing a stone.

Not good dude. I was in the hospital for 3 days with mine. HAd surgery a stint shoved up my crank the whole 9 yards. And yes they all look like sandburs like the ones in the picture above. Yours must be smaller than 5 mm otherwise they would shoot some sound waves in you. Drink as much water as possible and try to retrieve the stone when it comes out. The dr. can analyze it and adjust your diet to prevent further stones.

    Re: Kidney Stone

Had one once. It was horrible. I was sick for a couple days. I also had to leave class during summer physics at ISU, and my teacher said some snarky comment as I left class. After he found out I had a kidney stone, he sure was nice to me!

It took me about two days to pass it on my own.

Ditto, makes me shudder thinking about it.
