    Re: MLB.TV

I don't think you'll be able to, unless there is a way I don't know about. It will be blacked out for mlb.tv. My only thought would be maybe you can get the lowest subscription for mlb.tv and listen to the audio? Maybe that's not blacked out.

    Re: MLB.TV

Don't bother, they'll be blacked out more often than not. It'd be a waste of money. Some day MLB will wake up......some day.

    Re: MLB.TV

If you want to become a Premium Subscriber, MLB.TV puts almost every game as an "archived game" which becomes available 90-minutes after the live broadcast has concluded ...

EDIT: Now that I look at it, if you become a Premium Subscriber, you have the option to watch the HOME or AWAY broadcast. Let's say the A's are playing the White Sox in Chicago - would you be able to watch the A's AWAY game, since they are not in the Blackout restriction?

CSN Chicago is available statewide in the base packages of both DirecTV and Dish Network

It would still be subject to blackout, but you don't have to be a premium subscriber to watch archived games, at least you didnt have to last year. They are getting faster and faster at putting those games up too. Sometimes as soon as 10 minutes and you can easily watch an archived game in 30 minutes.

    Re: MLB.TV

Yea, it's an absolute joke. I wanted to buy MLB.tv to watch my beloved Reds, but since games against half the freaking division are blacked out, it doesn't make sense. Cubs/Cards/Brewers all blacked out. It's absolutely stupid.

I buy the gameday audio instead, it's $20 for the season - no blackouts. I love listening to Marty Brennaman, so it's not a huge deal for me.

    Cubs
    White Sox
    Brewers
    Twins
    Royals
    Cardinals

Nope - they are still blacked out. I tried this with the Reds broadcasts last year. I ended up cancelling the service and demanded a refund.

    Re: MLB.TV

The point of the blackout isn't to get people to go to the games; it's to protect TV rights. The blackout is in reverse for TV. If you have Dish or DirecTV and you subscribe to the sports pack with all the regional sports nets, in Iowa you can watch those six teams while everybody else is blacked out. Since those six teams have TV rights in Iowa, they have to be blacked out online to protect those rights.

I'm not saying it's not messed up. I'm just explaining the logic behind it.

I'm not saying it makes sense, but as a DirecTV subscriber with Sports Pack I enjoy getting those 6 teams games without having to buy the Extra Innings Package.

Always have been always will be and that's the same with the NBA & NHL as well. Iowa is in the home TV market of the Bulls, Blackhawks, Blues, Wild and T-wolves, so the same would apply to those respective league's online packages as well.

To watch "out of market games", you need to have a dish and MLB Extra Innings, NHL Center Ice, or NBA League Pass.

I don't know why everyone get's worked up about not being able to watch the games online, who wants to sit in front of a computer to watch sporting events?

    1. Many people have the ability to hook up computers to their tv. Additionally, the Roku (a box for streaming media like Netflix) supports mlb.tv.

    2. People with cable may have no other way to watch. It's not TV vs online. It's nothing vs online. If you are a Cubs or White Sox fan but your cable doesn't have CSN-Chicago (or Twins/Brewers and FSN-North, or Cards/Royals and FSN-Midwest) then the ONLY option you have for watching the games is ditching cable and going with a dish.

    Re: MLB.TV

Like I said in the post I started... I dont want to have cable... I dont have cable or dish... But I am willing to pay MLB for there service only. Why should I be punished or told I have to get a dish or cable to watch MLB games, When I'm willing to give MLB Money for there services... I would bet they make more per subscriber off of MLB.TV then they do off of Fox Sports Midwest for there Royals, or whoever...
