    ATT to buy TMobile

So much for competition. I guess your only choice is ATT vs Verizon now.

Hey, you could go with a 3rd option...which most intelligent people are doing...and switch to Sprint.

There are some pretty strong murmurs going around that Sprint + Verizon might be happening soon...

though there is still yet a 3rd option... U.S Cellular

    C'mon. Respect for U.S. Cellular

Not that many phones, but they have some good plans and I have never lost a call.

Interesting since the rumor had been sprint buying t-mobile.

Haven't heard that one...doubt the Feds would let that one fly...

As alarson said, the rumor last week was that Sprint was going to buy T-Mobile...Sprint just didn't have enough free cash flow to make the deal.

T-Mobile had to do something because they were running out of spectrum and AT&T is just falling to the wayside since the i-Phone went to Verizon...their network is crap and the i-Phone was the only thing keeping them alive.

Makes sense for both of them T-M gets more spectrum and AT&T improves their network. Going to be interesting to see what happens now...mergers don't always prove to work as well as people think...the Sprint/Nextel merger about took Sprint down.

I'm perfectly happy with US Cellular. Had AT&T long time ago and they sucked. No opinion on Sprint, never been with them.

I wonder if us cellular might be a target for sprint. might make more sense anyways since both are cdma instead of sprint trying to combine two fairly different networks by buying tmobile.

I sure hope not. With US Cellular's Belief Project, I've finally found a company and plan that I like. And if someone buys them out, I'm sure they'll screw it all up!!!!

    Re: ATT to buy TMobile

Ugh. So AT&T will be the only GSM provider in the states? Fantastic. I can't wait until it's only AT&T vs. Verizon.

Unfortunately, I'm locked into another 1.5 years of service with them... but hopefully in the short term they live up to their promised reasons for buying T-Mobile and their coverage won't be so terrible.

If they continue this anti-consumer behavior by adding bandwidth caps on all their data services from cellphones to DSL, I can't justify using their service... even though I'm considered as part of their 98% of their consumer base that won't be affected by capping bandwidth, I'd still like the peace of mind that I will never get slammed by additional costs by using "too much" bandwidth any given month.

That would be terrible, sprint is so different than US Cellular. US Cellular is more than a phone company where you go in and get out. US Cellular has pretty good customer service and very personal to the customer.

No, I don't work there, I just have family with Verizon and friends with AT&T and haven't heard the best of things. Some people love them, some don't but thats like everything in life.

I'm pretty ok if my phone company is just a phone company actually.

    Re: ATT to buy TMobile

We'll see if this goes through. There are antitrust barriers that must be gotten through before this will be able to go down.

When you combine the second and fourth largest wireless providers...there are going to be issues.
