    Re: Twins trade

Twins beat writers are tweeting that he was placed on waivers. They were waiting for GM Bill Smith to confirm.

They are speculating it is so they can add Kyle Waldrop to 40 man roster.

It does not seem that Neshek has recovered his velocity after the surgery.

As a Twins fan, I have a lot of concern about their bullpen this year.

he's close. hes been playing catch last i heard. not sure if he's done much pitching yet. havent been able to keep up with the news since school has been a ***** this year. hopefully nathan gets back this year to be our closer. after the guys we picked up last year, i think we will be set with a setup man and a closer, in nathan, if everything works out with him. if nathan doesnt come back right away or isnt top notch, we may struggle early

He has pitched 6.1 innings so far in Spring training, in 6 games. He seems to be doing all right, although his velocity still needs to pick up some which can be expected. He has an era of 4.26 or so, but that was from one bad outing......against the Blue Jays I think.

The Twins still have Capps, so we might see them use Nathan as a set-up guy, and Capps as the closer to start the season, or there was some talk of alternating them as closers one day to the next. In the article I read, they both seemed open to that....kind of a whatever it takes attitude.

I'm not too concerned about the closers. I'm concerned about who replaces Guerrier and Crain.

Here is some more about the waiver claim. Apparently, the roster spot will not be filled right away.

Guerrier, yes....Crain, not so much. Didn't think he was that great. Actually wish they would've kept Rauch.

    Re: Twins trade

    What this does:
-Gives Pat an opportunity with a different club once it was pretty clear he wasn't going to make the Twins.
-Clears a spot on the 40 man roster.
-Gives the Twins a little extra cash (contract plus waiver fee I would guess just a little short of a million?).

All in all probably best for player and club, some will wish the Twins 'would have gotten something' but there really wasn't much chance of getting anything of substance in a trade.

Edit: by a little extra cash I mean the contract money ($625k) the Twins now don't have to pay plus getting in whatever the waiver fee is.

Yeah, I wish they could have kept Rauch too, but then I wish they would have hung onto Breslow a couple of years ago too, so.....

Crain seems to have a good year, then a bad one, then a good one...so if that it the case he will have a bad one this year. Hopefully for the White Sox he will become the Gas Can Crain of old!

This whole Neshek thing just seems odd to me. Not so much that they did it, but why now? He still had an option left. They could have just sent him to the minors again, and made this move at any time. Especially if you are not going to fill the spot on the roster right away anyhow. Plus, there were others on the 40 man (Hacker, Bromberg, Hoey) that could have gone. Not sure what options they have left though, if any.

It just seems odd timing....maybe something is coming.

    Re: Twins trade

Good news for the Twins though as Peavy is getting shut down for the Sox and may not be ready to open season as fifth starter. You ask who might replace him?

    THE Phil Humber.

Wow.....and I think Ozzie had just picked him as the opening day starter.
