Did Pitts Nasir Robinson surpass Chris Webber?

In case you missed it, two player in the last 2.2 sec made bonehead fouls. I give partial blame to Dixon for not pulling players off the line, but he didn't. I personally think Webers dumb *** timeout was worse, considering game involved.

Chris Webber's was worse since it was during the title game.

If I was Dixon, I would have left my players on the line. Chance for an offensive rebound/tip in. As a coach, you just have to hope your players realize the situation and be smart...Yeaaaahhh, that didn't happen.

Re: Did Pitts Nasir Robinson surpass Chris Weber?

Webber's was worse, regardless of what round the game was played in. Fouls happen, and not always when a foul ACTUALLY happened (not saying that it wasn't a foul, because it was obvious that it was). If I were a coach, I can forgive a player for making that mistake. Physical mistakes are one thing, mental ones are another.

But calling TO when you don't have any? That is ALL mental.

Actually, if Dixon is going to leave his guys in the lane after the first shot, he needs to TELL them exactly what he wants: don't foul, get the board if it comes right to you, but don't fight for it. Leaving it up to 18-22 year old college students to just know is a pretty big risk.

Re: Did Pitts Nasir Robinson surpass Chris Webber?

Michigan had perhaps a 30-35% chance to win that game before Webber's error, and virtually 0% after it.

Pitt had around a 55% chance to win that game before Robinson's error, and around a 5% chance after it.

Assuming the games had equal stakes, Robinson's would be a tad worse, in my opinion. But, as isuaggie noted, when you consider that Webber's mistake was in the National Title Game, Webber's was worse.

Both were huge mistakes. However, I'm not going to hammer either player. They were both mental errors made in a split second in a high stress situation.

I don't think so. Losing the NC game is bigger than losing a game in the dance. Boneheaded move either way.

Re: Did Pitts Nasir Robinson surpass Chris Webber?

The comparison is tough because according to the NCAA Chris Webber's play didn't happen. (If I recall correctly) the Fab Five received illegal money from a booster so the NCAA struck all of their wins and stats from the record. So, it's tough for Chris Webber to lose a game that didn't happen.

Dean Wormer was wrong. Fat, drunk and stupid was a great way to go through college (all five years of it).

Re: Did Pitts Nasir Robinson surpass Chris Webber?

The one thing that bothers me about that Michigan title game was that although Webber gets the blame for dribbling up the court habhazzardly, the point guard, the guy who's job is to come get the ball and lead the team (Jalen Rose) sat on the wing and didn't come get the ball. I still think that whole thing was partially Rose's fault.
