what are you hearing on the 3 juco DL, Bibbs, and Bell? I have not heard mention of them lately. Does it take that long to learn the schemes and they are behind? Or are they just going to provide depth this season? I really wanted to see Bell and Lyle emerge as clear cut starters.

    Re: clones33

As i have said, Bibbs is an athlete. Bell is having problems holding onto that starting spot. He was having trouble with our defensive schemes. Lyle WILL be getting some immediat time as well Bibbs, You will see both of these guys thursday. The Jucos have to prove themselves on gameday. I think after a few games and these guys playing. Their athletic ability and experience will eventually lock them up the spot. Just like JJ Bass, i think he will lock up the spot and not have to share too many carries. I can tell you that the coaches have been impressed with Lyle and Bibbs. These guys are just a step behind when it comes to the system. I think we will see the day where most of them start. They just need to get their feet wet in a game and show the coaches what they can do in a gameday situation. I know that all of the JUCOs are working extremly hard and are staying optimistic. Allen Bell tells me he wont stop until he has that starting spot. But there again, NO discredit to the other men that are projected to start. Rashawn Parker, Jesse Smith... these guys have increased thier ability ALOT since last year and they are going to be special players for us aswell. WE are in a fantastic defensive situation. There is nothing better than fierce position competition. It pushes everyone and we are going to have guys itching to play and they will make big plays.

If I remember correctly, we saw this with Dobbins in his junior year. It took him a few games before he got the starting job outright and after that there was no looking back. If anything, these guys will good depth if they do no, in fact, crack the starting lineup.

    Re: clones33

McFarland is happy with his starters. Only the test of time will tell. Like a paper said this week.. we really dont have much to lose, our line last year wasnt fantastic by any means. Personally i think we took a step forward, but we will find out thursday. I can tell you that the guys on the line are playing tough and have their head in the game. also we have alot of guys behind them that also want to play. And there is never anything wrong with that

What's the difference asst. coaches this year vs. past? Do they work better together, more intense etc, or what do you see?

    Re: clones33

they are more intense against eachother, they are in a constant competition against eachother, offense vs defense Bolt always has his words and usually barney farrar is talking back for the offense. Koonz is a smart kid and has his smack talk to the offense as well. It is really fun to see these guys coach, they really go after it. they really take pride in their guys that they are responsible for and yes they are Intense. But Wayne Bolt is probably my favorite, He is a players coach, he coaches with intensity but he is a fun guy. He will make you smile even if you did something wrong

    Re: clones33

My main question with the offensive line/ running game is whether we are going to have a zone blocking scheme. I would much rather have set assignments and set plays, with the ability to react after that if you need to.

    Re: clones33

Bass and Robinson have been the most impressive in the last week. The line has alot of inside zone blocking that will allow our quick backs to pick holes like Clinton Portis did in Denver. there will also have some assigned blocking in there as well.
