Knight Commission wants all NCAA MBB Tourney Participants...

to have at least a 50% graduation rate to be eligible for the Big Dance:
Good luck with that idea! Since a federal court (U.S. Supreme Court?) ruled that forcing a student-athlete to stay for the duration of the scholarship violates that student-athlete's constitutional rights, and the frequency in which MBB student-athletes declare their eligibility early, enforcing that 50% graduation rate would be, IMO, unreasonable. How can anyone expect any NCAA DI MBB program now-a-days to consistently meet that 50% standard? To automatically DQ any team for this standard is adamantly unfair. The way I see the whole issue, the onus is on the NBA to enforce a minimum participation age, so colleges are able to keep their recruits and up the quality of play at both the collegiate and pro levels. The Knight Commission seems to expect the NCAA to apply leverage on issues outside its legal control. At any rate, I'm absolutely not expecting the NCAA to adopt this rule until the NBA stops accepting under-classmen for the draft.

I would not be opposed to that, it would reward the schools that develop their players and players who choose to get their education instead of having one and dones every year and players forsaking their education until later in their career (or in many cases never).

How do you propose stopping players from being one and done? You can't stop a kid from taking his wares to the professional level unless the pros (and there is more out there than just the NBA) refuse to take them.

Frankly, I would love ISU to be in the position to have the quality of players and success to have one and done players.

A school can't legally. Until the pros stop accepting under-classmen, players will continue to declare early.

Didn't say I had a solution, I'm saying that if such a system were able to be put in place, I would be in favor of it. Maybe it starts with the NBA taking an NFL-esque stance on underclassmen, but who knows.

It's the only way to prevent early declarations.

Maybe that is the real reason for the idea and not education.....
