Apparently a gas main ruptured in South Minneapolis this morning sending flames hundreds of feet into the air for about an hour and a half. It was in the street adjacent to the Cub Foods store at 60th and Nicollet. This is right by the confluence of 35W and the Crosstown (62). Apparently cars in the parking lot of Cub were said to be melting. Amazingly no deaths or injuries are being reported.
I have relatives living a few blocks from the scene who were evacuated. There wasn't too much fear of the flames injuring them, but there was concern of raining manhole covers (if you can imagine that) if there were any further explosions underground.
