not anymore. That's what this is about.

From what I understand, Clear Channel had a problem with the name and marketing of Deace and Miller's new streaming show. They said it violated the non compete clause that both have that bars them from having a Des Moines market show for 6 months. M&D had a working relationship with Marty's company to produce the show. Marty is claiming that M&D were making some unreasonable requests of him that they believed would get their show back in compliance with the non-compete clause. Marty said no, and they decided to end their relationship, effectively killing the show.

Miller wrote a big piece on it on HN describing his side of things. Marty gave his version on the air, which included a rather graphic description of Steve Deace's posterior.

Miller & Deace Update (3/16) - HawkeyeNation Forum

Steve and I came to a six-month agreement with Calling All Sports LLC, on February 28th, to do a one-hour daily show on the Sports Byline Radio Network. It was understood by all parties that the program could not air in the Des Moines market during those six months and we included verbiage in our agreement pursuant to the marketing of the program remaining in compliance with our non-competes, which are six months in duration.

Late Tuesday afternoon, our former managers at Clear Channel contacted Steve and I and expressed a few concerns with how our program was being marketed, specifically as to the websites callingallsports.com, mouthofthemidwest.com in addition to the on air promotion Marty Tirrell was giving the program on his afternoon radio program in Des Moines as these 'media' entities were owned and operated within the Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. They contended these were violations of our non-compete agreement, some of which surprised me as well as Calling All Sports, LLC as it related to marketing the show via the specified internet sites....

Re: Marty ripping Miller & Deace

My interpretation of the rant, for what it's worth, is that Marty is upset for a couple of reasons. He claims that Miller approached him with the idea for the streaming show, and assured him that the non compete clause would not be a problem. Now, after two days, they find out that it is. Marty is mad because he thinks M&D are in way over their head in this thing and think that their "brand" is worth more than it really is, evidenced by the "9 listeners" statistic he kept bringing up. He's also mad because M&D wanted him to change things about his business, to accommodate their non compete clause, something which he doesn't feel he should have to do. It sounds like he thinks Miller should have taken care of all this stuff ahead of time and made sure that the show wasn't going to be a problem with Clear Channel before he wasted Marty's time with it.

Throw in Miller's HN explanation which Marty believes to be less than truthful, and there you go. Rant on the air.

Uhh, yeah Marty, they are. Because they chose to quit doing their show even though they were killing it in terms of ratings. Remember when you were radio station-less in 2009, Marty? It was because you got ****-canned after that dopey rant you sent over the airwaves. Then you tried coming back on 1700 before the non-compete ran up and Clear Channel shut your *** down, too, just like they did with Miller and Deace. Freaking idiot, just trying to drum up listeners with drama. You couldn't hold Deace OR Miller's jockstrap....********.
