Fox and Big 12 Working on Deal

Saw this posted on Brent Blum's twitter. This sounds really promising!

I like the part about the schools besides Texas and OU having a Fox Sports Channel

That's the best part about this. Hopefully it means no more basketball games on CTN.

Sounds good to me. I just hope that Fox would put a little bit more money into their broadcasts. College games on fox have been somewhat "lacking" in the past.

Re: Fox and Big 12 Working on Deal

I wonder if the "Big Fox" would ever broadcast games on their network? I'd love a Saturday double header on the national network as opposed to the Fox Sports Midwest, West, etc.

I would also like to see some more games on the networks. Especially since I don't have cable or dish or anything like that, just the main channels for me.

I think it would be tricky for them because of their MLB and NASCAR coverage, but you'd think they could at least manage one night game a week on FOX. That would bump everyone up one spot and probably get us off of Fox College Sports for conference play at least.

I've also been unimpressed with the production quality of our games on Fox, especially basketball. If Fox is involved and the deal is for anything other than a true conference network (the Big Ten Network is produced by Fox) I will be disappointed.

I guess I was hoping that ESPN would consolidate our 1st and 2nd tier contracts into one and create a Big 12 channel.

So, today teams average about $10mill? And they thought they were going to get $20Mill? How does that all pencil out?

Wasn't there a thread late last week talking about how ESPN was working on a deal with the Big East for $300 million, and if so, was that annually, or total contract? If that's annual, then we look really bad for taking a $60 million annual payout from FOX.

I think that ship sailed with the Longhorn network.

ESPN is paying billions for the SEC, hundreds of millions for the Big 10 and Big East, and millions into Texas. Why would they want the rest of the Big 12, and how would they be able to show everything? You'd need to have more weeknight games, and more games on ESPN3 only...

So $60 million over 10 years? $600 million... ok
