I'm sure they will still get a firm slap on the wrist, receive a hero's welcome after they serve their suspension, and will learn their lesson never to mess with the law again.

Yeah - look how well that approach worked for Therapist Pierce...

I just love how the U of I uses the media to try and influence legal matters while they are "waiting for the legal system to run its course." Between this artice and the Photoshopped picture theory of Barta the Hawks will find a way to make this into a wrist slap. SA did the same thing when PP was arrested.

I doubt they will be able to pull all this off before the ISU game, but I would look for both these guys to be back of the field by October 1st. Im sure it doesn't hurt that almost everyone in the justice department in Iowa is a U of I grad.

Couldn't agree more! They sure don't seem to be letting the legal system run its course. I would think that train of thought would mean not giving any comment to the situation or saying over an over again, "we'll let the legal system run its course." Instead, we have a photoshop conspiracy theory (kind of) and an article that suggests the punishment will be lighter than expected with comments taken directly from KF himself, who throws out the "differing stories" theory between the players and police. Look for those two to be on the field this October.

Re: History on the Hawks Side - Douglas and Bowman will play again

Isn't it just like the Hawk homers to make a case for them coming back by looking at conviction rates for this type of crime in past years vs. taking what these idiots did and making them fess up and take responsibilities for their stupidity.

another case of Hawk fans enabling this type of activity as long as they are vital to the teams BCS championship season....

They will be suspended against Northern Illinois, or whomever they open with, and both be on the field against us. Remember this: Squeaky clean, All-American Kirk Ferentz, has ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS found a way to keep players who have ran afoul of the law (at least starters anyways) on the field for big games...

The "legal process" will not be done by October 1st. It will drag on for a year unless for some magical reason the charges are dropped.

Re: History on the Hawks Side - Douglas and Bowman will play again

Looks like the Hawks are floating a theory:

"I will give an example to clarify... Suppose a fellow student gave the credit card to the players saying that their father was a huge fan and a booster and they should use it to get something for themselves. Suppose the father got a call from the credit card company for these charges and flew off the handle and called the law. Now suppose the fellow student got scared and said the card was stolen. Now there is an investigation and players are arrested and suspended. Are they guilty? They certainly broke NCAA rules, but probably not the law. In this case, all the talk of booting them for life in this scenario is clearly premature."

    (From HawkeyeReport)

Let's use the principle of Occam's Razor here: which of these scenarios is more likely...the above or what is alleged?

if it is the above the players and the university are in alot more trouble than if they had just stolen the credit cards.....

That's what I thought, too. But it seems that those over there on the Dark Side are thinking this scenario will get these guys on the field this year, and that is good. Smells like desperation to me.

I wonder if he'll be forced to work his way up the depth chart.

I certainly hope that this is the case. Not only did they commit credit card fraud, they can add NCAA violations for the football program on top of that.

Looks like I should be picking up some poster board to make myself a big MasterCard sign for the Iowa game...
