Think it's bad being an ISU fan in the state of Iowa?

The University of Nebraska-Omaha is moving to Division 1, by joining the Summit League. The cost of this move is dropping football and wrestling, which they apparently couldn't afford to maintain at the Division 1 level.

I sense a conspiracy here. UNO's athletic director is Trev Alberts, a former Husker all-American football player. He likely still takes marching orders from Tom Osborn, and it would not be good at all for the Husker football program to have an FCS football program in the state of Nebraska.

I'm going to completely ignore your post. Please explain to us why it's a "bad" thing to be an ISU fan in the state of Iowa.

I don't see much of a conspiracy, if they didn't want an fcs football team they could just remain div II. Look at UNI, they have a very successful fcs team and still face troubles getting off the subsidies.

What? Why is it a bad thing being an Iowa State fan? I live in Iowa City, and I like Iowa women's basketball because I know Jamie Printy, Camille Wahlin, and a few other Iowa players. Is that a bad thing?

THis sucks, I was hoping to be a UNO fan because I hate the huskers so much. Of all the sports to cut, football seems like the wrong one...

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

Why does the title have nothing to do with article? Also, who cares about UNO? Not like I care much, but Uni should be worried about budget issues.

And if you can't be a Cyclone fan in Iowa, where can you be one?

Don't be obtuse, Hugs4ISU was obviously referring to Iowa getting most of the media attention and tavern fans vs. Iowa State. There are threads about that on almost a daily basis.

This is a non-story though, they are dropping football and wrestling, which leaves... Basketball. There are literally hundreds of schools that are D-1 for basketball.

This might help Iowa Western Community College in gameday attendance.

Re: Think it's bad being an ISU fan in the state of Iowa?

As much as we all complain about the way Iowa gets all the attention, all the hype, all the press, and most of the recruits, at least they don't 'suggest' we drop our football and wrestling programs. I think that's what the OP was getting at. Not that I agree that there's some conspiracy here, or that Osbourne did indeed suggest that they drop their football and wrestling programs, but people seemed more confused about the 'think it's bad to be an ISU fan in Iowa comment' than they should have been.

The day a FCS football program rivals the Nebraska football program is the day hell freezes over.
