What are we doing to keep Facebooks clean?

The attached article concerning Iowa football players Facebook pages raises a question for ISU...what is being done to assure we don't follow in their footsteps?

Don't worry about the ISU facebook stuff. The DM Register will have the whole sports department investigating all possible links of ISU student athletes to any online postings. After all, they know in their hearts that ISU is the dirty sports program in the state, despite all the obvious information. Clearly they just have to dig deeper.

You must be psychic. That would be the logical next move for the Register. Change it into a facebook issue, then find a way to show that Cyclone athletes have problems in that regard too, so that they can use it to taint the ISU program as much as Iowa's.

I wonder if we'll have to get a replacement punter for a game or two with the facebook pics being found on Brandtner

Yep, why let the Hawks take the heat for their transgressions when you can quickly deflect the criticism by pulling the Clones into it. After all, the Hawks are the moral authority of college athletics and can't be bothered by "silly" crimes such as these.

I suppose players could just act responsible and then it won't matter. If I was on a full ride, I'd sure as heck go out of my way to keep my butt out of trouble.

    Re: ISU lineup shaping up

He's got pictures on Facebook. After all, the moral compass that is the Rag keeps telling us that any athlete that uses Facebook is a problem and should be dealt with immediately. And the moral compass that is Barta keeps telling us that it is Facebook, not his football players, that are the source of all the problems at EIU.

Re: What are we doing to keep Facebooks clean?

    fyi

I emailed Jamie Pollard yesterday with the following comments:

"I wanted to talk a little bit about the “facebook” and “myspace” issues. The University of Iowa athletes have proven that these profiles could be used for information that might hurt them if they’re not careful. I hope Iowa State athletic department takes immediate action to remedy this situation."

This is what he had to say about it:

"Great to hear from you. I appreciate the feedback. We continually stress the importance of taking responsibility for what each student posts on their personal spaces but at the end of the day it is up to them to not put the University or themselves in a bad position."

    Re: ISU lineup shaping up

I have one question for the Register? Which ISU athletes that you're dragging through the mud were accused of felony theft?

This has nothing to do with facebook photos. It is a sad state to see a sports department that is so immature that they have the need to impugn the character of athletes based on the felonious acts of others.

    A summary of Register logic.

Iowa players are accused committing felonies.
Said players have photos on facebook flashing alcohol and money.

Other athletes have facebook photos where they are around alcohol.
Thus, the implication that other players are also felons.

I'm sorry but this really offends me. I will say this again. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PHOTOS. This has to do with stealing from others. Maybe the unrelated players should consider getting a lawyer to make the Register pay a price for this tabloid crap.

Re: What are we doing to keep Facebooks clean?

I want to make the point here as I have in a another thread. Facebook photos are not the issue. The issue is whether two Iowa players committed a felony. Their facebook photos may corroborate the commission of a crime, but they themselves are not the issue. The issue is whether they stole credit cards and used them to purchase merchandise.

I'm can't believe innocent parties are now having there private lives investigated when they have nothing to do with the criminal accusations.
