    Hawk recruit questions

The hawk board has several posts about their incoming recruit Josh Oglesby from Cedar Rapids. For those of you in the CR area that may have seen him play, is he as good as they make him sound? Did we miss out on a really good player? Hopefully our recruits are at least as good as Mr. Oglesby.

    Re: Hawk recruit questions

I've never seen him play, but McDermott never looked to offer him a scholarship and let's face it, McD offered some really marginal dudes scholarships. That probably says something right there.

I'm not saying this is the case. But it's possible that Chewie didn't offer because he had some *** backwards recruiting techniques (). Kind of like how in 5 years, only a couple of the Lick-era players would be offered by Fran. Lick barely looked at players better than what we currently have.

I don't think I really expressed that quite the way I wanted to, but do you see what I'm getting at? Again, I'm not saying that Oglesby is THAT good. He seems like maybe a slightly better version of Gatens (maybe a bit better shooter, good passer, but not a freak athlete). And hopefully, the teams he plays on will allow him to play the kind of role that Gatens would have on a better team.

    Re: Hawk recruit questions

I've heard Oglesby is strictly a shooter. If I was an Iowa fan I would be hoping he turns into a Christopherson. He's a bit taller, so maybe a Morningstar. I think they were similarly ranked coming out of high school (Morningstar and Oglesby).

At th etime, we had Elgin Cook committed as a wing. Guess which I would rather have?

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

I watched him play last year at the State tournament. He's a good shooter but hes pretty slow.

    lets get real

He is one of the best shooters and passers in the 2011 class. I wish Fred would of atleast made a attempt to offer him. Maybe Strauskus is similar. Always need a sharpshooter to come in for the kill.

He's completely one-dimensional and a jerk to boot. Trust me, you don't want him on your team.

I think the same thing. Oglesby will be a better version of Gatens. Gatens had very little upside when he got to IC. From what i have seen, Oglesby has some room to improve and be an above average player for Iowa

He has more turnovers than assists in high school. I question saying he's one of the best passers.
