    I love the Register

Does anyone else find this paragraph troubling?

    From register article,

Clearly, Douglas is an enormously gifted athlete with judgment problems. You'd hate to see a young man throw away such fantastic opportunities, such fantastic promise, over something as silly as all this.

Since when is stealing someone's credit card and ringing up a couple grand in purchases a judgment/silly issue?

A judgment problem is deciding whether you're safe to drive after you've had a couple of drinks. Judgments are decisions based on weighing of evidence. A poor judgment is based on improper evaluation of the evidence.

Stealing from others is a choice not a judgment. I'm offended that the writer would described credit card fraud as a poor judgment and silly.

Nice job Register. Thanks for your objectivity.

I also loved Peterson's comment that if convicted they would be the first U of I athletes convicted of a felony in a decade. What sort of comment is that especially after Pierce plea-bargained his way out? The Rag cannot report only facts; every piece has to be tainted with bias.

    Re: I love the Register

As a victim of identity theft, I'd like to see ANYONE who minimizes the crime of ID theft or credit theft to live through the YEARS of pure hell that I just lived through. I.D. theft SUCKS and takes years to "fix". And even then, you never, ever really recover from it.

Criminal activity is not a "mistake". Criminal activity needs to be universally condemned. And those who cannot condemn it are sub-human criminal scum as well, in my book.

Then I'd like to break every bone in their body with a 1" pipe.

But that's just my opinion. YMMV.

But if they can help Iowa win a football game, they're just being silly in the Register's eyes.

    Re: I love the Register

I'm sure they classified Berryman's crime as silly as well. That is very irresponsible "journalism" even for the rag. This wasn't a victimless crime and that is the main point being missed. Someone else was hurt besides an athlete's "opportunity" to play a sport.
But I assume this is probably Keeler's article so he is just trying to impress his hawk bosses.

I never ceases to amaze me how a metro area the size of DM can have such a pile of crap as the Register.

    Re: I love the Register

I can see it all now. DD is being interviewed by Keelor. At the conclusion of the interview, DD walks off with Keelor's credit card. Keelor is heard saying, there goes that silly DD again.

I'm pretty sure that's the sandpaper that the campus calls "bathroom tissue."

You know, the stuff that leaves you bleeding after use.

That's the John Wayne toilet paper. You've got to be tough as the duke to sit down after wiping with it.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Talking Re: I love the Register

I stopped subscribing to the Register a couple of months ago and really do not miss it at all. Matter of fact I think it has lowered my blood pressure.
