    On the menu??? (Wallaby's)

Going to stop in before the game tonight and eat at Wallaby's for the first time... Any recommendations about some must haves (appetizers, sandwiches, anything)?

As many times I've been to Ames over the years I have never stopped to eat at this place but have always wanted to based on all the good things I've heard about it. Tonight I make it a point to give it a shot and see if it holds up to the talk.

Get the Hawkeye wings for an appetizer, they're the best. And, they're spineless!

Sub cheese fries in for your side. I also agree that the Hawkeye Flappers are excellent (and spineless).

If your not in the under 15 nascar loving Ankeny crowd, you should have a great time.

I haven't been there for a while but I always got the tortilla chips with 3 dips: I think ranch, salsa, and the black bean dip. The bean dip is very good, even a lot of non-bean fans that I've brought there liked it.

    Nachos are the best.

Cajun Tuna and Cajun Chicken sandwiches are good. Cheese fries and Cajun Mayo go excellent with them.

Oh, and the Buffalo Wrap is great.

Go early -- game time is 6:30 and seniors will be honored.

Get a side of cajun mayo for your fries and leave room for Wally Pie (ice cream pie, flavor changes daily).

I haven't been there in a long time but the Hawk wings were always my favorite menu item. You must try them. Dont forget the ranch dressing!

    Re: On the menu??? (Wallaby's)

I like their burgers, tuna melt, grilled cheese, cajun ahi tuna, and fish and chips (because it is Mahi Mahi instead of Cod)...

As far as apps go, I like the Tortilla Chips, Boneless Wings, and White Cheddar nuggets (however these get kind of intense, so it's better to eat a little bit with 4-5 people, than a lot for 1-2 people). If you have any Vegetarians in the group, their Veggie Burger is really solid. I like Veggie burgers more than regular ones though, but Wallaby's is the only bar and grill in the area that makes these without overcooking them (most ppl think you need to cook as long as a meat burger, so it comes out charred and dry).

Yes. I highly recommend. I like to eat about half my fries with the cajun mayo and half with ketchup and mustard...
