Kitchen Sink Installation - Way Off Topic

I am in the process of replacing/installing a new kitchen sink. The plumbing beneath is pretty much capable of fitting my needs...whatever it maybe. I have plenty of space to work with so I will be able to manipulate whatever outcome I decide upon.

The question I have for people is this: the new sink has two basins (one large 9 inch deep basin and a much narrower 5 inch deep basin). Which basin should I hook the garbage disposal to? I see advantages in attaching the garbage disposal to both basins. Is there a proper choice when making this selection? I have been in homes that have a disposal in either one...just wondering if there is a "correct" selection to make when installing this sink?

As stated...way off topic but I thought I would seek some opinions. Thanks.

I believe the majority of the time it's the left basin; however, when I put my new sink in I had to put it in the shallower right basin since the left was too deep... the garbage disposal would have been below the drain pipe coming out of the wall

Do you like where it ended up? I can see it being useful in either basin...

Can something posted in an Off-Topic forum be off topic? And I would say left.

Good point...and thanks! So by suggesting the left basin, what you guys are saying is that "size does not matter"?

(and now this topic could be further off-topic)

Well, I wouldn't pick that style of sink basin(s) to begin with, but aside from that: the disposal should go in the basin you use for washing dishes. Hopefully that side also is the one closest to your electrical outlet, water source and drain.

My wife preferred to have either a single basin or at least one of the basins much larger than the other. I have seen people use the smaller basin to soak cutlery in and I have also seen people use the smaller basin for people to scrape plates into and therefore the need for the disposal to be placed in that basin? Guess there is not a "correct" answer...just what we might feel more comfortable with?

Same thing here. Kinda sucks having it on the right since that's where we rinse/dry the dishes. I'd go with the left side if it fits.

Mine is in the right, i would recommend putting it in the basin you use most often if you have the option to manipulate the water flow underneith.

Watch the depth of the sink, like other posted said. If basin is too deep, and then the disposal will also be lower, and it will cause issue with being able to have a good drop into wall drain pipe. Been there, and not a lot of fun.

    You are right, there, sir.
I've washed dishes from right to left and vice versa. I prefer the former, even after being told that as a right-handed person the latter is more efficient. When we added on to our kitchen, I put the dishwasher to the right of the double sink and put the disposal under the right basin where I wash the dishes. This allows any food particles from the washing process to go directly to the disposal, without needing to worry about letting some escape down the drain instead,

You do what's best with the equipment and organization that works for you.
