King's Speech was a solid movie. Of the eight of nominees I saw, only Winter's Bone, Toy Story 3, or The Kids Are All Right winning would have made me go "WTF?"

Agree with you on The Town, Chris. I thought it was one of the best I've seen this year too. I like almost all westerns, and True Grit was no exception. But I had to agree with the pick of The King's Speech as best movie. It was one of those movies that sounded boring and I really didn't care if I saw it, but the wife got me there and I'm glad she did. It was a great movie, and the fact it was a true story made it even better. And I lost my honey when the funeral director went down last week on the bachelor. I'd have dumped Ashley long before her.

You didn't like Winter's Bone or Toy Story 3? I thought both were great (didn't see The Kids Are Alright, but heard good things about it).

I liked them both a lot actually, I just thought there were some definite tiers to the nominees this year, and didn't think they were on the top one. Still excellent though, don't get me wrong.

The Kids Are All Right was...ok. Well acted for sure (I think you could have justified an Annette Benning over Natalie Portman upset) but I kind of think it may have benefitted from the same "gay bump" that gave Brokeback Mountain so much hype. It was good, but I think you could definitely have given a nomination to something like The Town over that movie.

Nothing much too it, just a theory that movies dealing with gay issues tend to get a little bit of disproportionate love from the academy (see Brokeback Mountain, Milk, etc.). Not that those are bad movies, or that I don't respect them for tackling those subjects, but in my personal opinion they weren't as good as the awards and hype would have you believe.

Pure Country 2 WTF???? It is true that they will make a sequel out of any movie no matter how horrible the first one was. Sounds like some straight to DVD awesomeness.

I knew what you meant but the phrase "gay bump" sounds much more 'X' rated. I agree with you, by the way.

I can understand a guy making fun of Pure Country 2, but I'll be damned if I am going to sit here and let you berate one of the greatest movies of all-time, Pure Country.

    Long live the King.

I enjoyed The Town, but i'm not sure it was Oscar worthy. There was nothing to special about the plot, kinda predictable. Again though, i enjoyed watching it at home and didn't feel it was a waste of my time.

I am in no way upset that it didn't get nominated, because it wouldn't have contended with the top few nominees. But it does seem like it's about as good of a movie as The Kids Are All Right (at least to my taste). That was my only point.

I wouldn't recommend doing that at work.
