Moreland Excited and Nervous about his Cub Debut

Moreland's style won't be the same as Santo's, meaning he won't grunt or groan at a Cubs mishap on the field. He said he'll criticize players when it's merited, especially if he sees someone dogging it.
"There is no substitute for hustle," he said. "Playing hard and giving everything you've got... anybody could be critical of that. Effort is the one thing you can control. The game of baseball is a game where you can not control the outcome because you could hit the ball four times right on the button, or make five really good pitches in a row and two of them leave the ballpark.
"You don't have control sometimes of the outcome. But what you do have control of is your effort. And if there's a point I can be critical, it will be about effort."
Moreland made a faux pas in his first interview session with the media, and politely asked if it could be deleted. But just as Santo referred to the swine flu as "the slime flu" last year, Moreland won't be perfect.
"I can butcher the English language with the best of them," he said. "I don't know what words mean sometimes. But I try my best to get the point across of what's taking place on the field."

Baseball hasn't even started and I already miss Ron. That aside I have a great feeling about this season. If Big Z can get it going and some young guns can impress I say we make the playoffs this year.

Re: Moreland Excited and Nervous about his Cub Debut

Nice article on Moreland I found.

Like Santo, new Cubs announcer wants World Series - Chicago Sun-Times

I missed the intial announcement. Excited to hear him and sounds like he likes to laugh and that will be a good thing(especially for a Cubs broadcaster....).

    Looking forward to Baseball season!
