Re: Branstad Nominates 3 to Board of Regents

As far as advocay for ISU, how do these three compare to the three outgoing members?

Will any of these nominees be amendable to Branstad's "University of Iowa - Ames Campus" dreams from his last stint as governor?

At least now we know the price to buy a seat on the Board of Regents: $162,712

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

Re: Branstad Nominates 3 to Board of Regents

None of the members that are leaving the board had any ties to ISU and one has a law degree from Iowa, so I don't think we're "losing support". But I haven't really done any more digging than what's on the board member's bios on the board of regents website. And I'm not sure if any of the new members have significant ties to any of Iowa's universities.

Probably all three would be. Rastetter made a big donation to ISU for an Ag entrepreneurship program, but he's a fan and donor of hokeye football. His business is headquarted in Ames (moved there recently). You have an iowa law grad and superintendent from Linn-Mar. Get ready, Branstad is going to do a LOT of damage in his 4 years.

Both Rastetter and Carroll are U of I alums. Mulholland has three degrees from UNI.

Yep. I hope all cyclone fans who voted for braindead *again* are happy. The guy really hurt ISU as well as the entire state during his last FOUR terms. But ideology is much more important to re-****-licans.

So true. Also, I was amazed at how many of my friends/acquaintances who are ISU faculty and staff said they were voting for Branstad.

Do you recognize, even a tiny bit, the irony in a statement like that?

This is heading straight to the cave, so I may as well help it along it's way. It's idiots like you that are polarizing this country to the point of no return. For god's sake neither side (whatever you want to call each side; republican/democrat, liberal/conservative, whatever) is inherently dumb, evil, good, bad, etc. It's dip****s like you that are on the wrong side of things.

    Thank you and good night.

Wow, what an idiot. Even if Branstad is absolutely horrible to ISU, in the big picture he sure as hell is a better option than the big lug was. Voting for a candidate solely for their position on ISU would be pretty dumb.

Dr. John Carroll is A+. I would say that it is quite unlikely that her appointment is part of a sinister plot to end ISU.
