will NASCAR ever be fun again?

They have tried to amp up NASCAR, but I am just so bored with it. I used to love going to the races, watching it on the weekends, but the races are kind of boring these days.

Top that off with an inexperienced kid winning yesterday of a weird strange race....

I guess I'm old, but I lament for the days when the cars looked like the models they were and crafty racing was a thrill.

Anyone other long-time fans getting bored?

Thought the race was awesome yesterday. Don't watch that much, but with the constant dual drafting partners that you saw yesterday, it really was a race of strategy.

To top it off Bayne wins, and can't even find his way to victory lane. I thought it was great.

I feel like I am the opposite. I hated nascar with a passion before yesterday. I always thought it was the definition of boring, but I greatly enjoyed the two-car stuff they had going on.

I wish I had an opinion. I could never get into it. Just don't understand why it was so popular to begin with, but to each their own.

I wish they had to buy cars off the show room floor and make them race ready. Thats what NASCAR was suppose to be.

Isn't there some underground racing that is like that? I mean, I'm a huge hip hop fan, but I listen to the underground stuff. There's gotta be guys out there doing this. Support that instead.

I liked yesterday's race. It was really the first time I've seen the drafting partners for a lot of the race.

Re: will NASCAR ever be fun again?

I thought the race yesterday was damn good. The only problem is they are too long. The need to shorten them to 300 or 350 miles/laps.

Trevor winning was great. He did what he needed to all day...which was stay out of trouble.

My inlaws love it, but I'm fairly indifferent. Given a choice, I'd much rather go to to baseball game. You can barely talk at those races because it's so loud.

I personally wasn't a fan of it. I would much rather watch a traditional race, such as Talladega or the Brickyard. I also agree that the race is to long. The races are so long, you can eat lunch, take a nap and still catch the end of the race.

Re: will NASCAR ever be fun again?

My problem with yesterday's race is that by the end you've only got a handful of drivers with a chance to win because everyone else happened to get wrecked because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't care how good you are at driving, there's no way you can avoid some of the wrecks. The end result is that we have no idea who the best driver really was yesterday.

Re: will NASCAR ever be fun again?

I think the racing was better before the new car but I applaud NASCAR for the recent changes they made: double wide restarts at all times, simplified point system, multiple attempts at green-white-checker finishes...they all make the racing more exciting.

I do agree that the races are too long. But at least yesterday most of the drivers didn't just ride around in the back for 450 miles like they usually do in plate races. Make a race 200-250 miles and the racing will be more action packed IMO.

That's my biggest issue with the 500 as well. It's basically a crapshoot...but all of the plate races are that way. It does make for more exciting finishes but its in no way indicative of who is a premier driver and who isn't.
