    2-21 Jamie Vanderbeken update

Per Fred Hoiberg, Jamie Vanderbeken is still day-to-day with his ankle injury. Hoiberg said that it is still undecided if JVB will travel to Austin with the rest of his teammates. They'll make a decision later today.

We have played much better lately without JVB. Don't know if that's just a coincidence though.

I think it's a coincidence. Jamie is a great player and while he has off-nights he always seems to have his head in the game and is working hard for the team.

I think we're playing better, possibly, because we know we're even thinner w/o JVB so the guys are working even harder. I think getting him back will be a huge boost.

Leave him at home, it just goes to show how much of an achor the guys was to the team. He is only good to use if he can hit 6-7 3 pointers. Kind of sad when you are 6-11. I see a ton of better effort from Railey and Godfrey. They need to be on the floor!!!

Railey has been playing well too. I think if JVB does get back to health, we will see him play a lot fewer minutes due to the emergence of Godfrey and Railey.

Did you just say that JVB is a great player. I needed a laugh today. That was funny thanks for that one.

Why is that sad? Its what he does best, and so Fred puts him in position to do what he does best. I agree the others need to see the floor as well, their increased athleticism on defense shows.

Don't mistake effort for skill and athleticism. Railey and Godfrey are much more athletic than JVB. JVB is essentially a pure shooter stuck in a 6-11 body. I love the effort Railey and Godfrey give, but I think JVB works just as hard. He just doesn't have the same skill set and athleticism that Railey and godfrey have.

    Re: 2-21 Jamie Vanderbeken update

JVB would be much more effective if he only has to play 15-20 minutes per game. He could come off the bench and cause matchup problems. Due to his lack of athelticism and defense, he can be a liability if he is struggling with his shooting.

Actually, the emergence of Godfrey and Railey should help Jamie. It sure seemed like his 1 downfall was a lack of agressiveness due to the fact that he didn't want to get into foul trouble. Now that it won't be a big deal, he shouldn't have to worry about foul trouble.

Agreed, not sure how much it matters if he starts or not, but imo our best case scenario is if he plays less than 25 minutes....especially now given the progress of the youngsters.

    Re: 2-21 Jamie Vanderbeken update

JVB was never destined to be a starter at the high d-1 level, but he is a great shooter and has helped us win some games. He probably could have been very solid coming off the bench, and maybe he can help us in that role now. But he's a hard worker and a solid Clone I will always respect and thank for what he has given us.

Lol, I don't disagree...I'm just imagining that conversation with Fred.

JVB: You want me to be more agressive on the defensive end, what about the fouls?
Fred: You're not as valuable anymore.

I don't mean this in a bad way....:)

I don't think our improved rebounding is a coincidence, which I think is part of the reason we've played better the last couple games.

    Re: 2-21 Jamie Vanderbeken update

I could see him more as number 6 or 7 guy coming off the bench try a few threes and if he can't hit anything and we are getting killed on the boards and the defensive end you sit him and not just let him keep trying to play in the middle trying to just kind of slow down the other team.
