Re: Cameron Bell switch to Linebacker

I am excited for Cameron but if he really has great speed and he's up to 230 already, I was thinking he might be better suited for the LB position. He can now redshirt this year, get used to the defensive side, and be in a position to get a lot of playing time next year when Banks and Bowen are gone. I have high hopes for Mr. Bell, he's shown he's a definite hard worker with how quickly he put on weight. I didn't want to be the guy that said his best position might be LB, but honestly he could probably be a star there and we need athletes at that position.

Edit: Plus, dude just looks like a linebacker. Imagine this guy with 20 more pounds on him:

Re: Cameron Bell switch to Linebacker

With Bass, Scales, Robinson, Harris, and Bell we had 5 non-seniors who could have contributed this year at RB. Too many good athletes at one position for a team with a lot of holes. Hopefully Bell and the other frosh Curtiz Mathis, along with Garrin, Smith, and Bibbs give us a solid LBing core for the next few years.

Any word on any other position changes? I know Harris has switched too much already, but he is too good of an athlete to sit on the pine. Especially since he started some games last year. If Scales, Bass, and Robinson beat him out he should change again, and perhaps take a redshirt year, but that may be difficult to do.

I was rather excited at the thought of a 230 lb running back. I love backs who can run people over. Watching Kock last year at the Missouri game was awesome.

I was happy for Kock and glad that the team rose up and sent Mac out with a win. That said, the rushing success said more about how bad the Missou rush defense has been under Pinkle than lost opportunities for Kock. One solid game in 4 years doesn't elevate him to all-conference. Heck, even Greg Coleman somehow managed to go for over 100 yds against Missou in 05.

Mizzou's rush defense was pretty good last year. They gave up only 11 rushing touchdowns which was third best in the Big 12. That is why their fans were so perplexed with what Kock did to them last year.

Your link includes all games which is distorted because of differences in strength of schedule. For conference games, Missou was ranked 11th with something like 184 ypg. Only Baylor was worse. I stand by my assessment that rush deffense under Pinkle has been weak. Part of it was due to the funky 3-3-5 alignment that he tried when he first took over. He switched to something more traditional last year, but has continued to struggle.

Kock was a bad mofo and was way underutilized... the Mizzou game didn't tell us anything we didn't know.

Re: Cameron Bell switch to Linebacker

could it be that they are looking at Bell at LB this year? With the aggressive defense the GC is playing, guys will be going at full speed and there will need to be more subbing that we have seen in the past.

they wont move him just for a year. if he goes to LB he will stay there barring any major injury bug.

    I wasn't clear in what I said:

I was talk in terms of Bell not being red shirted this year and seeing some snaps. I think the move is a good one if the coaches are comfrontable with the guys at RB.

i hear ya. i think that if the staff sees the move as permanent (which im guessing they do or they wouldnt do it) his redshirting will depend on how well bibbs comes along. a few reps are good but so is an extra year. alexander robinson must be more than impressive in practice for the staff to move the only other frosh away from the position.

That was my initial thought, and that would be good news, if they are moving him, I would think they must be pretty happy with what they have for RB.

Just for the record, Kock ran the ball down Mizzou's throats last year and had 3 TD's. I mean... each carry amounted to about 5 yards. The rushing success said more about how poor our game plans were. Maybe we should have done more running the ball up the gut. We had the size on the O-L to do it, we didn't have the speed on the O-L to pull and what not.

That's all hindsight though. Better days are ahead of us.
