No. 11 Cyclones Drop Final Dual to No. 14 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. The 11th ranked Iowa State wrestling team finished its 2010-11 regular season with a to loss against No. 14 Nebraska on Sunday at the NU Coliseum. The Cyclones fell to 0-4 in Big 12 dual competition and 9-10 overall. The Cornhuskers rose to 14-5 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 competition.

Jon Reader started the dual off in fine fashion for the Cyclones with a 16-4 victory over Caleb Kolb at 174 pounds. The senior racked up almost five minutes of riding time while turning his opponent multiple times throughout the match. Reader is now 32-0 on the season and is the top-ranked 174 pounder in the country.

Crap, premature submit and Tapatalk won't let me edit. Anyway, I was going to say it's not been a good year against the fuskers. Really need that BB win.

In all seriousness how is a team that is 9-10 and 0-4 ranked #11?

Because just about all of those losses were to top ten teams, and none of them were to teams out of the top 20. We also have several wins against top ten teams.

That and we are not a good dual team this year, but we have a very legit chance of being in the top ten in March. Our holes at 125 and 133, plus having Drioun out for a month, all made it tough to win duals but won't hurt us as badly in a tournament setting.

When is the last time we finished below.500 and/or 0-fer in the Big 12? I'd look it up myself but it's a little more difficult on the phone.

I don't think its even fair to compare other seasons because of the fact we had a coach leave and some wrestlers follow him.

Not trying to be an ***, but who followed Cael to PSU. I know his brother did, but he was a senior last year and wouldn't be wrestling this year anyway, and Long didn't really follow him as Jackson kicked him off the team, so Long would have stayed if Jackson would have let him.

We lost an entire year of recruits, and a handful of transfers. Basically last year was a lost year for ISU in terms of recruitment and development of young talent. Cael didn't pull a Brand's Virginia Tech slash and burn, but it is something that it'll take us a few years to fully recover from. This year should be the bottom though, as Jackson's first class is redshirting this year.

Cyler was a huge loss when he left, and Long is a huge second loss even though he was had been dismissed. Tyler also left but didn't follow Cael but this was a very big hole to fill as well. We also took a step back in recruiting as well. If you look at the holes in our lineup, the players that left are where most of our problems lie.

Yep, even with the lost year of recruiting, with Long at 125 and Tyler at 133 we would have won a lot more duals this year. Including the one today.

Also, with Cyler last year we probably would have won the title. Losing both him and Gallick was too much to still be in the hunt.

This isn't a Hawkeye topic. Why are you skulking around here? Dan Taylor would have been a Cyclone had Cael stayed, so there is another impact wrestler that is not on the team.

Just stay off this board. I know HN can't stay up, but surely there are other ways to bide your time. Maybe not.

Did I ask a question that was even a Hawkeye topic?

I just wanted to know who followed Cael is all, that seems to be a Cyclone topic to me.

Are you still mad that Coker made you look like an idiot over at HN?
